The shortest day

avatar

This whole year is starting to feel a bit like the shortest day of the year. Sunrise makes it entirely light outside at about 9ish in the morning while at 1600 it is time to pack you bags already, because it will be dark outside.

Adding the drizzle that will pss us fot he upcoming week (no snow as yet, how cool would snow be) and it feels like there is barely any daylight at all.

The perfect summary of 2020 I would say

While England is closing up and getting a tiny taste of how a Brexit can feel, the media is starting to feed the mass panic about the new strain of Covid which is gathering around.

Now ofcourse I am one of the 17 million new virologists here in the country so naturally I know what is best (feel the sarcasm there right?) so either the media is making a way too big of a fuss around this new strain story and which the normal measures you would already take (washing the hands, keeping social distance) you would be safe and this is no need to worry about.

Or this is something that is way more contagious (what does more contagious even mean? Spread through moist versus aerosoles? Sticks to nosehair easier?) but is it more lethal or does it make people more sick. I am having the same mixed feelings we were having around the same time last year around the shortest day

'No there is no need to worry, we are just building this temporary gigantic hospital here for the influx of patients, but nehhh. Take it easy'

I had that same feeling last year. Either the story was way too blown up, or something was boiling underneith. Now all plane traffic and train traffic to the UK is shut down. Is that mass panic or legit? I am curious from inside stories from the UK on what kinds of consequences this has

From the shortest day on you know it will get better from now on. Every day will bring a couple minutes more of sunlight. I hope the same thing will happen with covid. That the darkest day has passed us already, and we can all start looking forward.

Ive said it many times before, for me the situation isnt that bad. I still have my hospital job, and everyone around here is healthy. I intend to keep it that way. But I also see the suffering around me. Friends who arent having their jobs and are living in insecurity for a long time now already. It isn't good for the mind. Agression is something I also see a lot more around me, people act and react way too fast.

I just hope for some light at the end of the tunnel, for the mental sanity of everyone. The living on edge is starting to take its toll slowly. It is time for livin towards the longest day again, get this darkness out of here!

From now on it's only towards the light, right? Oh wait a minute, that didn't come out right... Aaaaaanyway, it's only going to be more light from this day forward. Let's celebrate that.

Now ofcourse I am one of the 17 million new virologists here in the country

😁🤣 This is a thing here in Finland too. But fortunately I know what is going on and I'm willing to tell you too. Congratulations, you are about to be the first zombies in the world so there sure is lots to celebrate. Hooray!

This year has been so absurd and a bit inconvenient but thank goodness only that. I'm also one of the lucky ones, although this situation has had some affect with my work. Or the lack of it. But as I've many times discussed this with people, I am and generally the people living in Finland are still the lucky ones and I just can't complain and don't want to complain about all this. At least we are not at war. At least waxiness have been invented. Only about a hundred years ago things were so much worse. Or I could live in a country that does not have the things that I have here. So I do not dare to complain about all this or my live.

But I do understand. I understand that I'm privileged. And there are lots of people who are not this lucky.

It's getting ridiculously obvious at this point that it's all a lie. They haven't isolated the first one, yet already found the second, more contagious strain, just in time the v@<<ines are rolling out. People are being economically and emotionally destroyed because of their idiotic measures.
Coincidently, today is the longest night so hopefully things will start improving from now on. What a crazy year, but at least it gave us time to work on ourselves. That was necessary.
