Right now keeps happening...And it has a soundtrack

avatar

Music has always meant a lot to me, right from a very young age. I was not even five when I started learning the piano continuing all the way through to my late-teens. Add in the bass guitar and trumpet, a stint in a jazz band and thousands of hours listening to music to this very day...Yes, it has been a large part of my life.

A lot of bands and artists have influenced me but none so much as Van Halen whose 1984 album was the very first vinyl I bought back in the year 1984 when I was fourteen. I don't know how many times I listened to it however a lot would sum it up I guess, and I still have it too. You can see it propped up next to my computer in the image below.

I listen to my music in an app these days however rarely a week goes by in which I don't listen to Van Halen and today one of my favourite songs came on, a track called Right Now from the 1991 album, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.

I recalled the music video and that it had some powerful words and phrases flashing up over images as the song, a powerful rock song, played over the top. I looked it up on YouTube when I got to work and took a look thinking how cool, and RELEVANT many of those phrases are even today some 20 or so years later.

It speaks of mankind's mistakes, of our folly, of regret and the need to remember that life is short. Good message. A couple I love are:

  • Right now time is having its way with you.
  • Right now you've not doing what you most wished you were.
  • Right now your memory is getting longer while your life is getting shorter.
  • Right now keeps happening.

Here's the video so you can check it out for yourself.

I particularly love the line, right now keeps happening, as I believe a better future will come through understanding the past, seeing what we did wrong, and changing it for the better right now. And yet, we don't.

The mistakes of the past are made again and again and right now happens over and over, with little to no improvement. We hate, segregate are greedy and go to war just the same as we always did, despite having the benefit of 20/20 vision to see what mistakes we made in the past. Right now keeps happening...Human's aren't so smart it seems.

Anyway, just some random thoughts brought up by the song. Right now it's Friday and the weekend is almost upon me, and it has come around none too soon.

This weekend we're going to see the movie 1917 which I have heard is amazing. We didn't get the chance last weekend so will head out for some dinner and the movie - A date night as such. I am shooting a club IPSC competition on Saturday as well, only around 70 competitors, and Sunday we'll go see my dad and hope he recalls who I am. His dementia sometimes means he does not. We'll probably hit the beach on Sunday afternoon, for a walk also I guess.

I'm not sure what the soundtrack to my weekend will sound like...Five Finger Death Punch, Michael Bublé, Van Halen, Florida Georgia Line, Old Dominion...Who knows...What is known is that it will have a soundtrack...That's a given.

I hope you guys have some great right now plans and are looking forward to your own weekend.

Have a good one y'all.

I have heard it is spectacular. As a war historian (by hobby) it is essential viewing for me. Well done...Now I'm jealous as I have to work all day! 🙄

Clayderman with his Balade pour Adeline was the track that I remember listening over and over when I was a kid. We had a radio cassette recorder on which I would listen to that tape. I remember that perfectly, I even see myself listening to Clayderman's music in the kitchen. I was a big music consumer throughout the years, I just forget nowadays to listen to it, and feel like there is not much to listen to anymore. By the way, I do have some great right now plans and they're basically to go to bed :)
Have a great day!

I've always got music happening...Even if it's just me singing in my head. Bed sounds like a good place to be Adrian...But I have to go to work. 🤣

I've always got music happening...

Hey Van Galen. I have a soundtrack suggestion for your weekend. And hopefully it also will be useful to help @acesontop to get rid of that Clayderman's track in his mental loop once and for all. };)

Never mind the lyrics mate. I never pay attention to these. What I always enjoy in music, it's usually the melody, the harmonies, its rhythm and above all, the swampy wild energy with which it invigorates my mind on weekends. :)

Cheers!! & ¡Happy Weekend!

I don't think that bad music exists...Just music that I like or don't. I'm not judgemental on any music really, I just don't listen to stuff I don't like. Most are the same I guess. There's no point hating on it, turn off the stuff I don't like and turn up the stuff I do! 🙂

Sounds like you have your weekend soundtrack all sorted so I hope you have a great weekend.

Throw in a few Kenny Chesney tunes, some BTO, Nazareth, maybe a *"hair band" or 2, a bon fire and a keg of beer in a barrel of ice, and I am making the trip to hang with the G-man....lol

Envy Alert...!!!

You always get a head start on the weekend..... "Dammit Man."

Yeah, we get a head start...But Monday comes around sooner too!

I've got a good one planned...A little Kenny Chesney might work well! Good suggestion. ✅🤠

Enjoy your date night and movie and shooting competition :D And hope your dad is having a good day on your visit :)

I didn't get to my grandmother's this week, had to stay home while an old tree was being brutally murdered x_x

You took out a contract on a tree huh? Hope you hid the evidence! Lol.

I'm pretty sure we have a good weekend set up...Anything can happen though. I've been struggling with severe back pain all week (have scoliosis) and so the shooting might be a non-event...I'm hoping to get some practice in prior to the State Titles but it's going to depend on the back pain which, at the moment, is pretty fierce.

I'm looking forward to the movie...We rarely go to the movies but for things tat we feel maybe be better seen in a theatre we're happy to pay a little to see it. I have heard this movie is best seen in a theatre and as an avid war-historian...Well, just makes sense.

What's going on in your neck of the woods except being on the run from the tree police?

I really, really didn't want to do it, but it was the type that drops branches DX it's been doing such a great job of missing our house too (dropped one huge branch down the side of the house nicely between house and fence, and another directly on the neighbour's shed completely destroying it, but it avoided the house and fence x_x).

J had been planning the poor tree's demise for a while, it was just a matter of money, and then the neighbour came over and asked if it could be done asap, and then we found some tree people who were cheaper than we thought it would be, and now it's gone ;-; and all that's left is a stump, a truckload of mulch, some small logs I requested be left behind to put in the catio we're going to build, and my deep guilt.

If you weren't all the way over there I'd ask if you wanted me to have a look. Hope it's eased up now :S

I think you should totally go see a movie in a cinema if it's the kind of thing you feel is worth watching in a cinema. The "home theatre" thing just isn't the same XD

Aside from brutal tree murder there's not much going on. I'm kind of looking forward to term starting back up as the kids are starting to get restless but I don't really like going to some of the more popular spots they want to go to as it's usually more crowded than we like (though I may take them to a trampoline park during the week as we have one of 13yo's friends on an extended stay with us and once term starts back up this kid won't really have an opportunity to go to one when it's quieter than normal even if more crowded than we're used to). At the same time not looking forward to term starting back up as the beginning of the year always costs the most as far as the kids' activities goes because that's when all the yearly membership fees are due along with the normal term fees XD

Our weekend looks like it's going to be primarily comprised of moving mulch. Exciting times ;D

It's sad about the tree but better that it's down and didn't take your house with it. Now...Just the mulch-moving to contend with.

My back is still sore...Had some dry-needling yesterday and that seemed to help a little. The physio and chiropractic hasn't done much but I am thinking of osteopathy at the moment, so will see how that goes. I'll live. I'm pretty tough.

Must be difficult keeping the kids entertained all the time but they'll be back to school before long so life will fall back into that familiar routine. Must hard with kids sometimes I guess.

We'll be going to that movie on Sunday so am looking forward to it. You're right, no matter how good the home theatre is it's never going to be like a real movie theatre. We only go three to five times a year though. Maybe we should go more.

Anyway, have yourself a great weekend!

I know that logically, but I'm the type that likes working around what's already there so this was going against everything XD

Yay for dry needling helping! Osteo sounds like a good option especially if it's muscle-related, chiro seems to only work with bones and I'm not even sure what physios do but they seem to be best for recovery rather than restoration. Good luck :S

I don't need to keep them entertained all the time, they have the usual occasions where they're bored. January that we're not on Christmas Island tends to be a lot of waiting for term to go back in and everyone else to go back to school so we can have everywhere to ourselves again. I probably should have spent a bit more time looking for more semi-rural areas to go but I haven't figured out if the middle child still hates being outside (she went through a period of spending as little time as possible outside because it was "dirty").

I think it's going to be pretty cruisy (I think I'll be working and J will be moving mulch, I did offer to help but not really sure how much more help I can be as there's only one wheelbarrow and youngest is already helping with shovelling) but that's great too right ;D

I wonder what Christmas island is like..I'll have to do some research. I guess it's very Christmassy, loads of pine trees, baubles and gifts laying around...Overeating, afternoon naps and leftovers the next day. Seems nice. 🤣

I hope the osteo person can do something...My fingers are crossed.

LoL! During silly season the last three things are reasonably accurate XD Replace the rest with crabs, crabs, even more crabs and then a metric boatload of tiny crabs.

This old video on the Youtube channel I don't use anymore (but am semi-contemplating thnking of using for trailers that point to full things on dtube down the line til they ban me XD) is at my parents' house.

Very interesting sir galenkp, isn't if amazing how much good music influences us for many years, possibly for our whole lives. Do you still play any instruments?

Music is an important part of my life. Yes, I play the piano here and there as I have one at home. I find it enjoyable but haven't said much about it on steem...One of those aspects of my life I've chosen not to say much about I guess.

Oh I think you should play us some songs! Do a video of it, you can have it shown from the back if you want to stay more private. Well, that's one option if you ever feel like it or don't know what to post about. I reckon that's not a problem though.

"Don't know what to post about." Me? Lol. Hmm, not really a problem I'd say.

I don't play the piano for anyone these days. I spent my youth having to play like a trained monkey every time my parents wanted me to, entered competitions and stuff also...Sort of left me with a bad taste in my mouth so now I just play for me. Maybe someday though.

Those who know me in real life know I don't do that. It's not, and never has been, in my nature. Perception is always people's reality though right?

Yes that's very true. When you are humble and shy and someone calls you arrogant it makes your head spin around! lol.
