Day one complete...A little video action for you

avatar

Hey y'all, I've arrived home after a day at the range competing at the IPSC State Titles - I'm a little worn out but feeling pretty good overall. I've only got tomorrow to go now, another six shooting stages, so I'm sure I'll make it though. 😂

Hey, I'd like to thank you guys who sent messages for luck here on steem and on discord - I really appreciate it and I think the luck worked as I had a reasonable day with the gun.

My accuracy and strategy was fairly decent although I have to be honest, my movement, the speed, was a little lacking here and there...I guess I can't expect to keep up with the young ones for ever. Still, I was happy with the day and there were some really good stages including one that had to be shot with the weak hand only (my left) and another with the strong hand only (my right). It was fun. (This simulates being shot in one arm - This is a military-based form of shooting.)

I don't bring my GoPro to big events as I'm always more interested in the event and my performance than getting video footage, but I grabbed a little in between shooting, just on my phone, which I have put together below for you.

You're going to see a young girl shooting a 32 round stage which was the first I had to shoot for the day - She wasn't as fast as usual, however didn't have a bad run.

The next is a very quick stage of only 11 rounds. Some of the really top shooters were doing this in about 4 seconds. The guy you see here made a mistake so had to go back to a target costing him time. I think he did it in under 6 seconds though.

The last is of a 24 round stage which involved a little strategy. There was a quick way to shoot it and this guy, whilst accurate, didn't choose the fastest way to shoot the course. He still got a reasonable score though.

I've hastily spliced all three together so you can see what I was doing today.

Tomorrow I have the last day of the State Titles to compete and will then get the results. I don't really care where I finish though. I'm having a great time hanging out with some people I only see at big events and meeting some new ones, and just enjoying the shooting. I feel I'm performing well also and that was my goal.

We'll have a 5am wake up in the morning for the drive to the range. Faith is coming out with me for the last day so I'm glad to have her along - I love her company, even when I'm super-focused at events like this.. I'll have to make sure I shoot well and not embarrass myself in front of her...Although she's the most supportive person ever so there's probably no chance of that happening.

I hope y'all are having a great weekend so far and continue to do so.

Cool to see it in action. It's one thing reading but another seeing for sure! Good luck with your lady wife spectator!!

It's a difficult thing to explain I guess, although I've tried. It's a lot of fun, and everytime I take someone for a shoot they fall in love with it. It's addictive.

The stages were interesting today however I'm told tomorrow's are awesome. Those that shot them today will shoot the 6 I did today...we swap over. I'm looking forward to it and to having my wife there. Thanks for the luck.

According to the Bible, Is it sin against God if a law enforcer is forced to take someone's life in the line of duty?

Did the last guy hit anything? I know it seems easy from the side but... at least the ones closer I think I would hit them. That chick was great though...:)

(Edited)

He hit everyrhing, scored A's and C's. The two top scores on an IPSC target.

You should get into the sport, sounds like you'll be good at it.

Definitely 😀. I haven't even realised that he hit the targets.

Might be safer to stick to the video games huh?

Definitely. I haven't played video games for about 15 years though.

That was really cool! I can imagine when you’re holding the gun, the laser focus which is needed!

You mean one needs to be focused?

Yes, there's loads of safety rules and if one breaks one of them there's no warnings...It's instant disqualification. So yes, focus from that perspective.

With the actual shooting...Yes, also a lot of focus. It may look really easy from the outside looking in, but I can assure you, if I put a loaded handgun in someones hands who hadn't done it they learn really quickly that it isn't easy at all. It's not a video game where one instantly re-spawns, or can be an expert shooter...

A lot of people look at it and talk about how easy it would be, but if it was easy everyone would be a grand-master and no one would come last.

Looks like a lot of fun, and quite serious too.

I turned down the guns in Vietnam, don't really regret it but am thinking I'd like to have a go at some point.

Hey there...It's not for everyone but can be good fun. I often take people out for a shoot and not once have I had someone not like it.

Competing like this weekend can be a huge deal of fun although yes, there's a serious side to it as well of course. I have just finished the last day of competition and overall had a lot of fun. I'll get the results in a day or so but I'm less interested in that than the fun factor.

I admire your committment to Steemit to still have the energy and will to sit and put together a well written and presented article after a day of intense focus and concentration.
Well done on your achievements so far...
I hope you took some earplugs along for Faith :)

Hey there...We've just finished up and come home from the event...I haven't seen results yet, but had a lot of fun and shot better today than I did yesterday. Was good, but I'm drained. Faith has her own earpro (matching with mine of course) so her ears were safe and sound. 😉

Watching the female person doing the course, was best of all :>) No...not because I'm a dirty old man...because I like the fact that some women are willing to do whatever it takes to possibly protect the innocent one day.

I hear you...There's actually quite a few girls that compete. My wife doesn't but she's proficient in the use of all of my guns: Handguns, rifles and shotguns. She knows how to load, shoot and make safe each one and is accurate with them. Considering there's guns in the house I think it's responsible for her to know how to use them..

I'm wholeheartedly in agreement with that, for safety and protection.

Just helps demonstrate the thing rather than people having to read the words...As if anyone reads all of them anyway.

Oh that's interesting about the skimming. When I started here I asked some experienced writers like ginnyannette about length of posts and they said the studies show that people can't pay attention after 800-1,000 words.

So I tried to make mine 800 or 900 words but people constantly asked me questions the answers to which were already discussed in the post so I knew they were skimming.

Then I dropped it to 600-700 words and still got alot of that. I think on Steemit they start skimming at about 300 words so now I try to keep mine around 500.

Generally I don't skim and if I run into a post that is ridiculously long I'll just skip it and not try to act like I read it. lol.

I'd be surprised if many read past 20 words, still I write for myself and the enjoyment of it so it doesn't really bother me. If people don't want to read then that's their choice. I can be brutal when someone comments pretending that they've read it though.

Very true, the pretenders are easy to spot, I don't know why they do that!
