Planting Sweet Potatoes! | ¡Sembrando batatas!

Hello again! I hope you're all right. This time I come to tell you how I planted sweet potatoes in my garden, the same ones I mentioned in this post.

Well, to begin with I'll tell you some important facts: Some time ago I had a half-finished compost that I moved to the place I chose for my sweet potatoes, to finish their process. The soil here is usually compact and poor in nutrients, so it was imperative to enrich it. This plant needs a loose soil that does not become waterlogged, you must also take into account that it spreads and takes root wherever it goes, if you do not have so much space you can cut it, or propagate it, as you like. You can also plant it in large containers or pots (large) and leave the plant hanging from the balcony or tie it up in a fence, in the same way what we want to develop is in the ground.

Now, let's go with the steps:

The first thing is to get a sweet potato, what I did was to buy two small sweet potatoes in a market, as I wanted from both types I bought an orange (orange skin) and a white (red skin). I came home and put them in a container with water, which only covered them a little at the bottom (about 1/3), then just wait.
A few days later they start to grow roots and then some sprouts (with the orange sweet potato the process seems to be different, as it took much longer and the sprouts didn't come out the same way)

Estas fotos fueron 5 días después de comprarlas | These pictures were 5 days after buying them

After these buds start to come out you just have to keep waiting (patience) every day you will see how they grow more and more until they look like a big plant. In about 3 weeks (maybe more for the orange potato) it is time to plant them and this is where the magic comes.

These photos were taken 2 days apart, you can see how fast the buds are growing

And these were the day i sow them

Prepare the place where you are going to sow (loosen the soil, remove the stones and place fertilizer. The soil should be well loose at least in the first 30 cm). Now, each of those slips that the sweet potato has will become a plant. Once you have the space ready, take them and plant them up to where the leaves start to come out. Spread out the soil well and you're done! From 4 to 6 months they will be ready to harvest, take good care of them and water them a lot. ❤️

| I ended up planting the orange sweet potato in one go (in the middle), you can also do it this way, but it will leave all the plants in one place.

You must take into account that the longer you leave them the more they will grow, but they will become a little fibrous if you leave too much time.

Finally, it is advisable to place dry straw, coconut fiber, or some other covering to protect the soil from the sun and maintain moisture. I will be showing you the results in the new year. See you soon!

They're a little covered, but since they grow quickly, there's no problem
