It's midnight and I woke up just to write this. I wanted to share my feelings about why I write. Blogging for me is almost a release, in fact it really is. This must be the way a rapper, artist or filmmaker feels when he just has to get something out.

The work is like giving birth. For me, creating a post isn't a marathon. Its more like many smaller races, all strung together into one narrative. They begin, usually just as the germ of an idea. I have a folder of unfinished posts that I work on from time to time. There are several long ones in there, but they're just not done.

Sometimes I'll wake up with a killer line or a complete paragraph and need to get these down before I lose them. Little by little, my hands mold the flesh on this literary skeleton until it becomes like a living breathing creature of it's own. Then I send it out into the world to see how it will do.

I'm like a proud parent rooting him on, like a dad at a little league baseball game. But back to those unfinished ones... Some are too long and need to be cut back. Others need that little *something* so they simmer until they're done. How do I know when that is? The tinkering becomes less fruitful, and at some point, one last good line comes in from innerspace, and you just know that that is IT.

There's one I've been working on for a few weeks, about a great job I once had. Eighteen paragraphs in, and I don't even think I'm half done. This one may not see the light of day, but putting it together is helping to sharpen my writing senses. To the budding bloggers out there, the best way to become a better blogger, is to keep writing. It's good to know that long after I'm gone, my content will live on in the blockchain. There is no better feeling than hitting "submit" and sending that puppy out into the world. Why do you write?
