I'm starting a translator job hunt. Right now on the CV preparation stage!
I've already worked as a translator for over a year, so I know the business inside. However, I never had to hunt for it. One day someone simply came and gave me the job. Ever since I left, I haven't seen any other job as easy for me and as profitable as this one. I'm just sad I never saved any money from it.
So, now, I have the purpose of going back at it! After 2 years of learning creative writing, design, Internet research and human relations, I think I'm ready to go look for every translation company and send them a resume. The first problem is obviously to make that resume. The last one I made was four years ago, and I've gained a lot of experience ever since.
Since I don't know how to make a resume, and don't have the tools, the first thing I'm doing is googling for cool-looking resumes (seen above) and meanwhile, I'm downloading Adobe InDesign and an InDesign template course to see if I can get right into the advanced features. I have the intention of making quite a few pdf's and a couple of e-books, so these tools will certainly come in handy soon.
Zree hours later (more like 10 minutes because fast Internet)
Aaaaaaand, I'm not sure if this was such a good idea. I need to spend at least a couple of days learning how to use this piece of software. In the 20 minutes I've been testing it, things are so inconsistent sometimes. Sometimes elements get resized, other times they get cropped. Sometimes settings apply, sometimes you need to drag them. But I'm getting the gist of it.
It's 4 a.m., and I'm sleepy. The course is also downloaded. I'll sleep, watch it tomorrow and see if I can copy some of the first Google results for "beautiful CV designs" and then I'll try to make my own.
