The fine line between free speech and spreading false information

There has been alot of talk on here in the last few months about Covid-19 and many different theories about who is involved and how. Along with this thee are some who think that the mainstream media and centralised platforms such as Youtube and Facebook are censoring us to believe a certain narrative - something I strongly disagree with.

I know about the old sentiment of free speech, but there are people out there who are spreading blatenty false information about possible cures for Covid-19 and I think this should be stopped. This type of false or not proven narrative only gives more confusion and leads people to make ill-informed decisions based on peoples opinions. There is a differences between not taking vaccines because its ´my body my choice´ and not taking vaccines because ´they cause autism´. If people dont want to take vaccines thats entirely their choice, but I dont agree with people sharing views on vaccines that havent been proven, as this could harm people.

Much of this information is spread and shared through social media and is often conspiracy theories at best. People often dont search for this type of information but it can be pushed and shared to a wide audience. Surely places like Youtube and Facebook (who are centralised) have a responsibility to filter and cut out the completely false and BS as it could be harmful?

I agree with many who think that we should be able to have discussions about these things without the fear of being censored, but that it should be in the form of discussions rather than the spreading of false information. Trump has shared in the last weeks about chloroquine and how it ´could´ treat Covid-19 patients. However, there is alot of research about possible side effects. It hasnt been tested on Covid-19 and yet being pushed as some type of miracle. Yes testing takes time, but it is the only way we will know if things actually work or are causing damage. And I wont even go into the fact he talked about injecting disinfectant.

The world does seem in a bit of a Big Brother state at the moment with all of the social distancing and being locked up in our houses being told where and when we can go out. However, the alternative is much, much worse in my opinion. Imagine how far this virus would have spread by now if we went on as usual...

Each to their own I suppose, but I am starting to get fed up with the blind people who arent taking this virus seriously and spend there time coming up with conspiracies about how the government is involved. Maybe you have all been locked up to long!
