Wednesdaywalk: Walking in Kazan - A walk through the Kazan Kremlin (part 4)

avatar

This is my entry for the @tattoodjay's Wednesday walk challenge.

Today I want to continue my story about a trip to the city of Kazan, which I made several years ago at the very end of spring.

Last time I finished my story on how we, walking along the main street of the Kremlin, passed the presidential palace. To the left of the palace was the Syuyumbike tower.

The date of construction of this tower is unknown. According to various estimates, it was built from the 16th to the 18th century. The name of the architect and the authentic name of this tower, given to it during construction, are also unknown.

The current name of the tower first appears in written sources in the 19th century. The name is associated with the name of the Tatar queen Syuyumbike.

According to one legend, the Moscow Tsar built this tower in seven days as a sign of his love for Syuyumbike. The tsar of Moscow called the queen to marry, but she refused him and jumped from this tower.

There is another opinion that the tower was built by the Tatar Khan before the capture of Kazan by the Moscow Tsar. The tower was one of the buildings of the khan's yard.

Excavations were carried out near the tower and the destroyed buildings of that time were found. On the map, this place is marked as the burial of the Tatar khans.

The spire of the tower deviates from its axis by 2 m. The guide told us that at the present time, work was carried out to prevent the tower from falling.

Also near the Syuyumbike tower is the Palace (Vvedenskaya) church. Now in the building of this church is a museum.

Having walked in this place, we went back to walk along other streets of the Kremlin.

On the way, I once again drew attention to the building of the Museum of the Cannon Yard.

We did not go into the museum, but I photographed its beautiful wooden doors.

Here I will end today's story. I hope you enjoyed the photo. There will be a sequel ahead.

See you next Wednesday!
