'The Empty Piano Lounge' - A Simple Oil Painting

'The Empty Piano Lounge' ..

This is a painting I created that took me out of my comfort zone. I gave it away several years ago to a couple of good friends of ours. He loves to play the piano and spends some of his time in a small band. I thought since he has a passion for the piano, then maybe he would like having this piece. I didn't start this painting with any clear visions of where it was going to go. If I remember correctly, this was going to be a painting of the inside of a home; sunlight shinning in an open window. I think I was entertaining the inspiration of white curtains blowing in the wind, and the sound of birds chirping in the spring air. Things went in a different direction I would say.

I Had Been Afraid Of Bold Use Of Color ..

And would stick to what I knew when using oil colors. When painting this one, I made a drastic change in a few of my painting styles. First the use of Red was out of the question prior to this. At least is such great amounts. It may not seam like it to you, but even this much red was out of my comfort zone. I replaced that inkling of using white for the curtains with a vision of red. I also made sure to carry it through to the chairs and of course the piano bench.. I couldn't leave that out! I threw in a few details like a slight pink reflection on the wall. Sometimes when sun shines brightly through a window, it casts a hew of color onto walls closest to the color source. In this case the red curtains casting a red hue onto the white walls.

A Simple Painting Style ..

Was used on this piece. I did not have any formal or informal art schooling, so whatever I say may be weird. I suppose what I should say is that my painting style sort of changed for this one. I painting in a simplistic manner, placing a few details here and there to convey light and the presence of objects. Otherwise, every object in the painting lacks an abundance of detail. For example, the piano itself was painted very simply, but my mind fills in the blanks. It's mostly black with some white reflections of light. I placed just a tad of color, some red reflections just above the keys, and some gold accents where the name of the piano would sit. Originally I did not have the foot pedals painted in, but added them later because it felt like something was missing. I didn't keep the proportions exact either. It's sort of fun when you don't keep things proportionate. It's like your breaking the rules or something like that.

I Have Since Returned To What Excites Me ..

Landscapes seam to be my thing and what I tend to paint most of the time. I refuse to ignore what makes me happy when I paint, so I stick with nature scenes most days when creating. Although, if you follow along with my postings, you'll see that I throw in a little of this and that to keep it interesting. We'll be seeing these friends in a week or two. I will be sure to bring this one up to them and see if they are still fond of it.

About Me ~ The Artist

My art work incorporates a wide variety of subject matter, including landscape, seascape, cityscape, and still life images. My works are the product of a continuing process of exploration through which I seek to portray personal and visionary interpretations of my surroundings. My paintings are impressions of places and events from everyday life, an interpretation of my imagination, and personal responses to what I see and feel on a daily basis. More recently I have invested generous amounts of time into my landscape painting. I am surrounded by natural and man made beauty, which inherently presents itself in the tri-state area, and almost demands that I paint it.

Not everything is art. Art is not everything, but it comes close. Art is everywhere and all the time. Art makes you experience the beauty of the world, the people in it, and the places we call home. Art itself is so influential that it can tell stories, show feelings, and express passion or fury. Art exists in addition to language; expression of sensations and thoughts, revealing a way of thinking too subtle and delicate for words.

For me art requires love, honesty and perseverance. In return, it reveals some personal, non-analyzable, and creative untamed passion. For the public, art with its magnificent beauty, improves mood and health and builds better human beings and communities. It engages the intellect, softens the heart, strengthens the soul and frees the spirit.

It definitely gives the impression of birds chirping in the spring air, and I love red. I think this is beautiful, and I'd be surprised to learn they don't value it highly.

I disagree with Steinbeck though. Dogs might spend their lives trying to understand us, but they do not think we are nuts. They worship us!

Thank you for those sweet compliments 😁 my head is getting bigger after having read them. Lol. I agree. Dogs don’t think were nuts, I feed them there for I am a god to them! 😆 haha.

I hope I don’t find that painting buried in a closet somewhere. But if so no biggie. I’ll just take it back. Hehe.

What I like on this painting is great contrast of Red and light Green colors, you combined them so good and also to the contrast you managed to create an impression of sunny day that throwing the light into the room. The whole atmosphere is airy and light.

Thank you @steemitboard. I am slowly gaining a new appreciation for those who post often. It’s tough, but I would rather post quality over quantity. 😁
