Axeman's Travelfeed #019 - The Magic of Angkor Wat Part 1 - Behind The Photo Contest Entry

avatar

Here we go with the entry for the next, 6th edition of "Behind the Photo Contest" run by @nelyp which you can find HERE

When people asking us, what is most interesting we saw in Thailand, we are laughing to answer - Cambodia. And this is basically is the truth. This county is very special even during one day visit and Angkor Wat temples complex is just mind crashing...

And the story is, after few days of traveling around the Thailand, finally we came to Pattaya for 3 days stay. And it is appeared that there is a possibility to visit Cambodia buy few hours bus trip for only 140EUR (including transportation, hotel and guide services). The decision was not so obvious, since we already were a lot tired of those bus trips, but just to let such an opportunity go away was not the case, especially counting all those photos of Angkor Wat widely available in the internet.
Well, reality appeared to be much more overwhelming than even expected. Though we had basically only evening of the first day and half day of the next one and basically visited only 5 temples out of total 192, we got heavy cultural impact from the Wonder of the World

Shortly some basic information about Angkor Wat. It is a Hindu temple complex in Cambodia being largest religious monument of the world with about 162.6 hectares of the territory. Originally that was Hindu temple, but while years passed it transformed to Buddhist temple toward 12th century. It was build as a capital of Khmer Empire

Today we are going to the visual story of the main entrance to Angkor Wat and the first temple. This time I had two usual bodies with me, which is quite hard to carry for a few hours with a lot of walking around, but we are not looking for easy ways. The first 6D is normally used to fashion portrait shooting with a brighter lens, while second 7D Mark II (with crop factor) paired with very wide focal range 16-300mm Tamron lens. And it is just perfect for such reportage in a daylight conditions and allows very wide range of photos to be done even just staying at one spot.
Obviously the main problem was.... tourists. A lot of Chinese tourists, which comes to 80% of the total. And they are just everywhere :) Well, its kind of experience how to manage to get clean shots even in such situations, so here we go starting with some general and visually recognizable views combined with some nice details of architecture as well
