Trip to Serras do Gerês - Pedra Bela + Cascata do Arado | Portugal
It was at the Pedra Bela viewpoint and with a poem by Miguel Torga that i left you in the last post, and wanting to resume today’s return from that place, we start by saying goodbye with one more look under the immense valley where the Cávado River rests and with a compliment to the cow that rested while enjoying a cool shade on a day that was around 35 degrees centigrade.
The destination would be the Cascata do Arado, but still near the viewpoint, we stopped again to register this interesting space where several paths unite, having as central point a huge water tank supplied by fresh water from a spring, where many of the animals who go there take the opportunity to quench their thirst after the climb.
On the other side of the road we have a watchtower that was unoccupied by the time we passed there.
I don´t know if this type of facilities will still be used by human means to set up on duty and from there watch the mountains and the possible appearance of some fire outbreak to immediately inform the coordinates and alert the means of intervention.
Unfortunately, every year, immense hectares of forest burn in the mountains of Gerês, in fact, immense hectares of forest burn all over the country, it is a scourge that we face year after year.
In this year of 2020 the fires have already started and recently a flame attack plane crashed in one of these mountains and one pilot unfortunately ended up losing his live :(
It is difficult to leave such a register when we address such sad topics, but we must continue.
After this brief stop, we went straight ahead following a dirt path that quickly took us to the waterfall of Arado, one of the most beautiful and well-known waterfalls of Peneda Gerês.
At this time of year the water flow is very low and you can even make trails through the water courses and even climb to the top of the waterfall, as i already did and shared in an old post, but on this day we decided that we would not go to the middle of the rocks and we chose to go up the slope through a side path to the stream and when we reached the small viewpoint in front of the waterfall we made some records that i share here today.
The idea was to stay there listening to the sound of the water in silence, but many tourists started to arrive and we decided to go down and take the time to go to lunch at the campsite restaurant.
I was still here looking for more records, but the absence of them makes me believe that after lunch we started the journey back home, thus ending a long tour.
It was good to remember :)
That´s all for today :)
See you soon
Thank you for watching :)
