Trip to Parque das Nações #2 - Lisboa | Portugal
Continuing the trip and staying in the same place that i shared in the previous post, today i will dedicate the article to the music garden of Parque das Nações, a small space dedicated to music that has the Garcia D'Orta garden as a neighbor and a stunning view of the Tejo River.
In the search for more details about the space in question, i came across some news mentioning that it suffered several attacks of vandalism in 2015 and that for a certain time it was interdict from the public and its continuity was even questioned.
It should be noted that it is a public space with a playful and pedagogical aspect not only for children but also for adults, who in both cases are amazed by the space and all the experiences that it provides, and it is very sad that in 20th century, some people do not know how to behave and take these marginal acts on public space for such degrading actions.
Good news, however the space was recovered as well as all the instruments that were destroyed and took the opportunity to upgrade and install new musical instruments.
In the meantime i take the opportunity to share some photos recorded in 2009.
Starting with the most curious object we found in that place, Pedra do Zunido accompanied by the following description:
Here knowledge is exchanged with speech, with the effect of the voice itself on the organism, and the discovery of the "individual" tonality.
Put your head in the opening of this basalt lava stone and start humming, that is, producing a continuous and strong sound, until you find the right and individual frequency for each person.
This creates a resonance that makes the whole body harmoniously and pleasantly vibrate.
In prehistoric times this stone was used for therapeutic purposes and as an oracle.
The musical column, a granite column that emits sounds like a big tuning fork, as long as you hit it with your open hand, or rubbing its top vigorously with wet palms.
You have to experiment several times and be patient to be able to hear the low, full and long-lasting sound coming from the speaker.
There, arranged in a circle, we can also experience the sound of the various bronze dishes that resemble those Japanese bongos and to finish the music box that links movement to the experimentation of sounds.
Stepping or even dancing on the nine bronze plates with their careful and complicated mechanism, produces melodies in a pentatonic sequence.
In retrospect, a peaceful and harmonious walk that we remember :)
That´s all for today :)
See you soon
Thank you for watching :)
