Pen Squirrel [Drawing Process]

There are many artists who use the pen as their favorite technique to make portraits, personally it is a technique that I find fun.

A few days ago I bought a box of bic pens that come in colors, because I was curious to see how the drawings made with a pen would look using the range of colors that come in the box.

The colors are basic and in my box did not come yellow color which is a color that I usually use a lot as a base, but this is how I do the repairs to make something good and fun.

The Reference

Looking for inspiration in Pintererst, I found the animals section and all the images are so adorable that I wish I could draw them all.

It should start with one of the images and this squirrel drinking water and seeing its reflection, falls in love.

I thought that for the orange and brown colors I could perfectly use the colors of the pen box.

The Process

To make a work, artists use different ways to start, some do not even use a sketch. This is my process to make this drawing.

First I reduce the image to geometric shapes to use them as a guide to indicate the location of my drawing on the paper. With them I make the strokes that help me to have a clearer sketch

With the eraser I clarify the line that I made previously but without it disappearing at all, so that they give me a guide and make a clean sketch, In this way I can start working with the flow chart, it is a slow process so it requires patience.

I wanted the texture of the hair to stay, so I was doing the drawing using only stripes and stripes. The colors I used were orange, brown and a little black

With lines and lines I got the hair texture I needed. this is a really relaxing process.

With the black pen I managed to give depth to the coat, maybe I should have left it there because the next day, without the desire to draw, I wanted to make the background and the reflection and this did not go so well

I decided to test my skills doing the background too, but this was the next day and I think I rather forced myself to draw because that day I was out of spirits, I did not feel like drawing and ... so bad! because I think that's how I damaged it

I like the result, despite the fact that the reflection did not fit me well and the background still looks very false or it seems to me that it did not turn out well

however we will continue to improve every day
