Passion? I see it as that burning desire to keep doing what you love doing irrespective of the outcomes and challenges.

This a drawing of late Kobe Bryant, one of the greatest basketball player, holding what he loves to do most.

The work was done with a blue ballpoint pen on a cardboard paper. See my steps below:

I like how you always have some pen scribbles which come outside of the main picture, but don't detract from it at all. If I were doing it myself I'd struggle to just let them sit and start over because I'd feel that I've gone wrong. This is probably why I really struggle with drawing in pen. I don't have the confidence to make that permanent mark on the paper.

Yeah, it does happen to me. Sometimes, the outline sketch doesn't give me the resemblance but I just move on to shading - in the process, I make adjustments. Though I prefer getting the resemblance before shading because it makes the work easier for me. If you watch my outline sketch closely, you will see I made some adjustment in order to get my desired shapes but I made those lines to be faint. Perhaps that would help if you give it a try.
Thanks for stopping by.
