Challenging Myself By Doing 100 Head Drawing In Oil Pastels

100 Head Challenge OP.gif

Hello, how are you? Doing the 100 head challenge always triggers my eagerness to do it, but I never completed I've been attempting to do it for years now but I can commit to it so it stop me the moment i felt not doing it anymore but I saw alot of artist do it and it inspire me to do it too like why not, I am in a right mind now why not try it so I decide to do it today and I felt excited about it.

So drawing using Oil Pastel in a portrait intimidates me a lot. This time my drawing is not good, and sometimes it is good, and why not try it again, but this time a smaller portrait, and this is harder than I thought, but I did it, I drew three portraits in just a few hours LOL.

I did not focus on drawing the portrait realistic the important thing is I did it hahaha. I do not like to pressure myself, I just do it because I want to. So yeah, I hope you like it.

Materials I Used:

  • Paper
  • Color Pencil
  • Tissue
  • Oil Pastel
  • Scratching Tool

Draw Time!

1st Head:

Before, I used to be discouraged whenever I saw my drawing going to a phase where it did not look like a portrait, but that is just how it goes at first, LOL. Drew the line art with a color pencil and then started the rendering on the eye.

Then I added all the base colors of the portrait. I like to start by adding the dark color so that it will not be desaturated after layering it with a lighter color.

Then I decided blue is the background for this portrait, and then I drew the flower on the scarf.

Finish it off with highlights, more shadows, and contrast.

For this second portrait, I am getting a little bit used to how small the portrait I need to draw using oil pastel LOL.

16.JPG

I outline the portrait in order not to lose the line art, and it will not be hard for me to draw it, LOL.

Then I added darker shades to make it look dimensional and not so flat looking LOL.

Then decided light green is the perfect background color for this portrait.

I added texture to it to make it more interesting, and I like it just like I do with the still life drawing I did earlier.
