ULOG #11: THE EFFECT OF LOWERING DOWN OF COMMUNITY QUARANTINE RESTRICTION

For 2 1/2 months, in most part of Luzon, Philippines experienced strict community quarantine due to the outbreak of corona virus pandemic which started in China last December 2019. China went to first implement their own version of lockdown in Wuhan, China to contain the virus. The Philippine Government saw the need for community quarantine that's why it was implemented last March 15, 2020.

For more than 75 days, we adhered to the rule of staying home and social or physical distancing. We immediately sanitized our surroundings to make sure we'll never get infected.

Starting June 1, 2020, a lesser strict Modified General Quarantine were implemented for the sake of Philippine economy. The Government can't subsidize the living expense of every family anymore. People started to go out and go to their place of work. People started to go out of their houses.

With more than 18,000 people reported infected and most likely more than 14,000 until now are still recovering, the chance of getting infected is high. The supermarket and department store are now open to serve the public and in this places the spread could be so fast especially for those places with air conditioning system where air circulate only within.

Although people can now go out with lesser restriction, transportation is the main problem because the free rides were withdrawn by the municipal or city government already. The companies must provide services for their employees. Tricycles are the vehicles allowed to roam in the street, since buses and jeepneys are still suspended, but the tricycle drivers are getting bigger amount of fare. Still the common citizen are affected.

The lowering down of quarantine restriction is only experimental, if the cases go up in the first 15 days, it will go back to stricter quarantine rule again. The second wave of the virus infection trend is more deadlier because if may produce more infection everywhere. If the undisciplined Filipinos continue to care less for others, the second wave of this deadly pestilence can kill more lives than expected.

I don't want to put panic but what I wan't to impart is for Filipinos to be extra careful in every way they do. Being more cautious will help us lower the incidence of acquiring infection.

In this perilous time, there is only one way for us to be safe, it is through the care of the living God. God is the only refuge that we have. The only places where any virus or danger can not come. Let us pray always for the recovery of all the infected and the total elimination of the virus. Let us pray to the good Lord the safety of everyone. We can't do anything without the help of the Lord.
