Fast and Furious Ink Festival Challenge - Day One

Mind flies fingers run

This is my publication in response to the fast and furious festival task of the theinkwell community. The festival aims to challenge writers to write at least 25 minutes a day (or more if you wish) following the day's assignments.

Today's message and challenge revolve around dialogue and are divided into two tasks.

Imagen de Engin_Akyurt en Pixabay

Task One

In your post, take what you learn about each of the three characters from the dialogue in the extract below and then develop them until you have a paragraph describing the character more fully.

A woman in a restaurant whispers to her friend:
"You know who that is over there, don't you?"
The other woman surreptiously glances at the other table:
"No, who?"
"That's just it, she's had so much work done you don't recognise her. That's Betty Grainger."
"No!"
"Yes, she's had her nose done, cheeks lifted, even a hair transplant."
"Whatever for?"
"She's going into politics."
"Seriously, that's really her?" * (69 words)

Ink Well Fast and Furious Festival Quote - Day One

First character:

She is an adult woman of 48 years old, with many accessories on her, necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, badly made up, but she feels she is elegant and in fashion. Divorced and with two children studying at universities far from home, which forces her to go out with her friends to forget the loneliness she has at home. She has no reading habits, nor does she like cooking. They only entertain themselves at home watching soap operas and reality shows by artists from the past.

Second character:

She is a young woman of 40 years old, single but always looking for love, once she leaves work in the afternoons she meets with some friends for coffee and to pass the time while the night arrives. She dresses well, according to her age and is distracted, she is not aware of her surroundings, nor of the other women, she only tries to look at the gentlemen to see if any of them crosses her gaze with her, she usually goes unnoticed by the opposite sex.

Third character:

55 year old woman with a tense face, without facial expression, it is difficult to know if she is upset, sad or happy, the application of Botox has indiscriminately gone out of control, however, she is of happy spirit and likes to have fun in night clubs and high society bars. He uses a striking and sober wardrobe, a little elegant, but imitating great brands. N0 aspires to any public office, just wants to catch a millionaire widower of the city.

Task Two

Write a short dialogue, like the one above, no more than 70-100 words, where two characters are talking about a third one. What can you reveal about your characters in your dialogue?

Dialogue

  • Hi honey, how was work?
  • Very bad, I don't want to talk about it.
  • What's wrong, so serious were the problem, maybe I can help you, what happened?
  • For helping luisa, i was late in my own homework and at the end of the day that detrimental me, i didn't deliver my analysis on time and the boss scolded me.
  • What a rage, sometimes by trying to be good to others we harm ourselves.
  • Yes, and she didn't even thank me.
  • Well, you've learned your lesson, don't get distracted in your work, first your own and then help others.

In the task one I had fun describing the characters that came to my mind through the dialogue, it was easy to create a profile of each character based on the short lines of dialogue.

In task two, I wrote the first thing that came to my mind, trying to create a clear definition of the characters without using names, I don't know if I succeeded because my mother tongue is Spanish and I must confess that I use the translator, in Spanish they use many punctuation marks to express the emotions and the meaning of the words, I dared to compete because I like this kind of contests that motivate creativity.

It takes just half an hour and 30 minutes to complete the tasks, 2 hours searching and editing the image hehehe, that always happens to me, I consume more time on the images and layout of the publication. In total it was a 3 hour production.

I would like to know if the answer to task two which is dialogue makes sense to you and what you thought of my participation, suggestions, recommendations, advice are accepted.

In the dialogue I perform, I also invite you to describe my characters, who were talking, Vivian together, as they were. Your comment will coincide with my characters, try it and I will give you the answer.

Thank you very much for reading me.

Nice work, @soyunasantacruz. I like your character descriptions. They sound like people I might actually know!

You have written some very nice dialog as well, capturing conflict and drama in the work life of one of the characters. That is a great way to get your readers involved in your stories.

I laughed to your description of character one, I don't know why you feel she's divorced but I agree with you, she could be 48 year of age and with children. You did nicely mentioning and describing the characters in task 1

Hehehe I don't know either 🤔, ummm maybe because I think that only lonely and unoccupied people are the gossips. 🤣🙈😬. It should be like that, but it's not.

Thank you, 😉 👍

Hi soyunasantacruz.

I love the way you have explored the motivations of the three character, especially the two gossiping women. Their character traits elaborates on why they might be gossiping about the third.

And your dialogue effectively portrayed how a boss sometimes doesn't see how they have created a problem by overloading a worker... they so rarely see or admit it though.
This is why after my last job I vowed I would only work for myself from then onward 😂

Jejej was fun to imagine a person's life just by listening to one sentence. We are good at profiling people first hand or at first reading.

Congratulations on that decision, being our own boss is the best. 👍

Thank you for your publication, it was a useful example I needed. 😘 @raj808

No problem. I need to get round to going and replying to the comments on my post now 😉

It is great to see people taking part in this fast and furious festival as I think it is a great creative writing learning tool. I struggle to retain information when reading a book about 'writing rules' but when I do creative prompts like this it becomes ingrained in the memory through the practice.

great I'm happy for you too.

I always believed that I had no creativity, I don't like crafts and I have been a little clumsy to create with my hands, then that false belief lodged in my thinking.

then my friends and fellow students, started to tell me that I was writing very well and to try to write, then I thought if others believe in me, because I should doubt my capabilities, so here I am learning and taking challenges.

I don't know what all this confession was about but I already wrote it. @raj808

Yeah, I don't know what part of the world he's from, his gender, or his age, but I consider him my friend in hive.

I'm getting used to make connections in a virtual way, before hive not even the facebook opened it. now I open it less but I feel part of the virtual world.

Hello @soyunasantacruz I like your description of the characters, especially the future politician. Her use of Botox and it going awry is not really funny, but sad. The knowledge that she really doesn't want to serve as a public official but has ulterior motives is something many people do who use the office for deeds other than what it was intended. Nice write up.

Your dialogue is one that I've encountered numerous times. It's frustrating when one puts others' needs ahead of their own and no appreciation is shown.

Your comments are a motivating force for me.

Everyone who participated in the challenge assumed that the third character was a politician or wanted to be one, and I didn't believe the rumor of the other two women hehehe, I dismissed it completely.

All the perspectives are interesting, thank you very much for your comment. A hug 🤗😘 @justclickindiva

You're welcome. So happy to have taken the time to stop in and visit your characters. I wanted my character to go into politics, but with an underlying twist for her motives to do so and not what others thought thereby negating the rumors.

friend to be honest, I went to your publication I read, but I had a hard time understanding the description of the characters, I tried 3 times but I was not able to put a comment.

I must be tired tomorrow, I will gladly come back and leave you my very objective observations. @justclickindiva

I found your approach to the characters quite unique, especially the one who THINKS she is in fashion ... and then the third one with the Botox ... nice touch! About your dialogue ... we have all been through that situation, and hope that we will have that friend who will comfort us but also tell us like it is! WELL DONE

For your comment I have achieved the goal, thank you very much, I hope to improve every day. Thanks for visiting. @deeanndmathews

Hello @soyunasantacruz.

I loved the way you described the characters. All women are of an age of maturity. I was surprised by Betty Grainger who is going after a man who is a millionaire, that is to say she is not interested in politics.

As for the dialogue, I think it's almost perfect. It's a couple or a marriage and they talk about an ungrateful woman, hahaha

The detail I see is that the two end lines are not placed correctly.

Cheers!

Thank you @marcybetancourt hehehehe good that you liked the description of the characters and with respect to the end of dialogue if I think that there I did not know how to write well what I meant.

Thank you very much for your comment, sorry for the lateness of my reply I just realized. Thank you.

Greetings, @ soyunasantacruz. I'm just catching up with the comments. Coming a bit late, my appreciations may be redundant.
I must say that in task one I missed a name for your characters. I think you incur in particular value judgments (particular world view) that take away from the richness and autonomy of the characters by saying, for example "she dresses well" "bad makeup" "the Botox application has gotten out of control" I also think the emotion of the description has prevented you from seeing certain contradictions. For example I don't know what to imagine when you say "She uses a flashy and sober wardrobe" or when you say that the character entertains herself by watching "reality shows of artists of the past" . I think that reading is somehow an act of faith. Therefore what is told must always seem credible.

Hello, it is always a good time to make a constructive comment, you are welcome here.

Certainly the first day, I did not know the importance of the name of the characters, I learned it and now the first thing I think is to baptize my character with a good name including one suitable for the place where the plot develops.

As for the value judgments, I had not noticed that, an author's mistake I guess hehehehehe. That's something I did unconsciously and I wouldn't know how to describe omitting my judgment, surely there is some technique for this that I don't know.

Thank you very much for all your recommendations, it was a pleasure. @gracielaacevedo

Hello,@soyunasantacruz
It's a pleasure that I got to read your day one assignment. You response to task one was quite different from the ones I've read. I loved that you made your characters unique by thinking outside the box. And the fact that you described each of them in different situations.

I loved the dialogue as well. It strikes me with the reality of life and wanting to please people first before attending to our own needs. Well done.

Hello thank you very much for appreciating my creativity. I tried to make the characters as close to reality as possible without judging their behavior.

Trying to see a little further, sometimes first impressions are wrong.

Thanks for leaving your nice comment @Faith65
