(Edited)

Hi, people in the Hive.

Thanks for dropping by!

I hope you can read my poem and I’d be honored if you left a comment.

This is my entry for the poetry challenge brought by @TheInkWell (check their post here). They are doing an amazing job; check it out and perhaps you’d like to join in. It's Week 3 already!

Sickness

It unwound the several folds of cloth
of accomplishments and failures
that have wrapped my pride for forty years (now scarce).
The news came dressed in white and handsomely,
its gentle voice stripped me naked.
Its warmth conflicted with the inescapable cold
within my chest.
It went on,
rousing the fears of my skin, making my legs tremble.
Swiftly the uninvited had made it
beyond the threshold of my allowance.
I shivered.
It took my now and my next mornings; it took me whole.
It’d been crawling, creeping,
surreptitious and sly, drawing its meandering path;
rubbed its poisonous belly against mine.
Indeed, I’d been finally taken.
But it wasn't forever; only three months.
Then the end.
And that was pretty much it.
