Inner perception

The focus of this work is the human ability to speak, the symbolic character and meaning for people and their characteristics. Wilhelm Dilthey's descriptions of expressiveness, the process of understanding and art become a point of reference, which is in the context of "his plan to continue to build a historical world in humanity".

At the start of my work, I want to clarify relevant terms that are important for understanding self and others. This includes, for example, expressions, expressions of life and experiences. In the following I would like to present Dilthey's view of humans, the origins and forms of understanding, as well as the interactions and dependencies of individuals with one another.

In this context I would like to explain the educational effects and benefits of language. In addition to a presentation on Dithey's theory of expression and understanding, I wanted to examine questions about the meaning of language and the assumptions of symbolic form for art. The creative strengths of artists, especially musicians and poets, and the (aesthetic) impact of art must be considered.

According to Wilhelm Dilthey, human communication and related understanding are related to what is called the expression of life. "What is given here are always expressions of life. Occurring in the world of the senses, they are spiritual expressions; in this way they allow us to recognize these. Here what is meant by the expressions of life is not just an expression which means (or wishes to be interpreted) something, but expressions that make such an expression can be understood by us without the expression of such a spiritual person.

"This utterance contains a list of many aspects that form the basis for understanding. On the one hand, Wilhelm Dilthey defines the world as a world of meanings and expressions in which the inner or spiritual world of man can express himself. This expression occurs through the expression of life or should be equated with this, which includes expressions that are intended, meaningful, as well as unintentional, undesirable. Here Wilhelm Dilthey determines the different expressions of life.

Thus, one must distinguish between terms / judgments / structures of thought, action and experiential expressions. The first two categories are generally applicable or understandable and can be signs of cultural affiliation (eg greetings as traces of culture), but they provide almost no information about the life of the human soul. This contrasts with the expression of experience, because of the expression; can contain more mental context than any introspection can see. He lifted it from the depths that consciousness did not illuminate. "

These can be understood as inner experiences, which are made visible and represented from the outside (eg greetings as a sign of emotional connection with someone). In general, one can say that the expression of life is an expression of something individual (soul) and something general (culture).

Already in this explanation it can be seen that the expression of life and understanding are tied to the term expression. This raises the question of what can be understood as human expression or expression; "Everything that people do, process or produce - whether consciously or unconsciously, with or without (communicative) intentions, [can be] understood as an expression and understood (in principle)."

Because of that one can understand movement, sound (language, writing), action; Generally grasp all sensuous and meaningful signs from within and the mind. Expression has a dual function: on the one hand it expresses human experiences or experiences (= the expression of experience) and at the same time the expression creates new experiences. "Understanding, in other words, always understanding expression. Expression is an expressive articulation of experience, a stable and creative design."

Before taking a closer look at the process of understanding, it can be summarized that there is a circle or cycle between experiencing (active perception), expression (through articulation), understanding (through identification with commonalities / cultures and recognizing individuals) to bring to life.

A person's linguistic or symbolic speech and their understanding represent psychological or cognitive attainments and are dynamic processes. How this process developed and related to it is examined below. In the previous point, we discussed several aspects that lead to understanding. Nevertheless, it remains open from what understanding originates, what form it takes and why it is important to human life.

"Understanding grows first for the sake of practical life." This opens up a variety of approaches. On the one hand, understanding is needed as soon as I engage with another person, meet him and want to communicate with him or vice versa. It doesn't matter whether I express myself verbally or non-verbally. Besides, I have to understand the world around me in order to act appropriately in it.

Here it must be understood the meaning of certain symbols and words. In both cases, this is done through (cultural) literacy. Consequently, people have the ability to understand, but this is only revealed through an introduction to the world of meanings and meanings of language and symbols (meanings of colors, shapes, objects), which presuppose or make education necessary. The "areas of application" of understanding can be summarized and justified as follows:

"We constantly expect such interpretations of individual gestures, expressions, deliberate or group-related actions, they occur in the conclusion of an analogy, but our understanding continues: Trade and traffic, social life, work and family show us that To gain insight into those around us to determine how far we can rely on them.

The purpose and function of understanding is to understand the insides of people and thus draw conclusions about their lives and relationships to each other. In this context, the difference between inner and outer perceptions plays an important role. Something inside is expressed through the outside (language, movement, symbols). "Therefore, the expression of life under the term" inner perception "is not to understand an isolated inner world of consciousness, but a meaningful reference to our reality and life;
