The labeled slaves in the grave
at the bottom of the ocean,
crying out for justice.
The bubbles have yet to reach the surface,
even then, would they be heard?

Centuries of injustice, ready to erupt,
but yet still many don't give a fvck
on the cusp of this revolution.

"oh this will just die out like it did in the past,
those ni66ers will never last."

Opportunists of all shades
pump fist with the righteous.
Hyenas in Panther's clothing
looking to loot and burn,
instead of create and earn.

Uncle Andre's shop didn't get spared.
The insurer, the banks, nobody cared,
"we fed the homeless thru these doors,
gave the youth a safe space,
we gave jobs to the community
who was mostly counted out
."

No unity,
no love,
no plan,
no peace,
in the belly of the beast,
it never listens.

This poem is all over the place from the start at the bottom of the ocean to the current situation. I put some narrations in as it just flowed and made it a bit more interesting. A friend of mine, his uncle's shop got wrecked during a "peaceful protest". That was the inspiration for the last part. It gives a kind of a first hand experience of business owners who are feeling the other side of these protests. Nothing wrong with protesting but when you are gonna damage the communities that you are supposed to be fighting for, it just doesn't make sense. But then, if the protests were all peaceful, would you be paying attention?

"oh this will just die out like it did in the past,
those ni66ers will never last."

That's enough to make you howl with rage, just that line alone.
The last riots here were about Mark Duggan, shot dead by police in a car chase. There were huge reprisals for looting:

A firm grip indeed. Just saw the news that they had 19,000 corona cases in 24hrs in America. What a mixture of events, and black people are more likely to suffer /die from the virus.

Interestingly they had protests in Tokyo on Monday. Heard there were protests in London too.

What a year.

Very powerful poem xxx

I really think that most of the damage is being instigated by insiders, these protests were all about being peaceful and so many are trying to maintain that. I also get what you are saying about peaceful protests not creating enough noise. But some of the most poignant moments are not getting enough air play. Like when hundreds of people lay down on the streets for 7 minutes and chanted I can not breath. That was very powerful, but instead the media focuses on the destruction.

Thank you.

Insiders mixed in with opportunists I believe. You are right, the media isn’t highlighting the good as much but I do see how they are making it clear that there are two different tones/fractions to the protests, the peaceful and then the violent. Sadly the violence sells and makes up most of the news and the peaceful is left to the end with 1 minute slot like a rare sighting.

1,000s arrested when this could be de-escalated by arresting 4.
