There is so much thought in this piece, that each of us can take away something and still, that might be different from what other readers understand. For me, at the end, there is the lifelong challenge of learning from the past without being weighed down by regret. As you suggest, pain is a teacher, but it can also embitter and change the course of a life for the worse. To be productive, I think you are trying to say (and I agree with this) we have to learn from pain, and then leave it behind.

I like many of your references. They add substance to the story. Reading this was an exercise in reflection.

I couldn't agree more with your reflection. Everything happen in our life has a purpose, whether it is love or heartbreak. I appreciate that you like the references in this story. I deliberately add those lines to make the story somewhat realistic. Thank you for your engagement, @agmoore!
