I felt so bad for the little boy. I'm a mother twice over. I couldn't bear to do that to one of my children (who are now very grown up).
You describe well his emotional response to being forgotten. Yes, he would be angry and hurt. This is a little change from what you usually write. That's good. You have to keep stretching those creative muscles. You stretch them very well here.
