Shadow cast - Lanzamiento en la sombra

By the year 2000, the internet was not the shadow of what it is today, social networks did not yet exist except, as I already mentioned in another publication, the mailing lists. The World Wide Web was a set of static pages and search engines were just beginning to gain strength and intelligence.

But I had inaugurated my web page on fly fishing, at that time I was very fanatical with that activity and I added 4 or 5 notes every week, the number of subscribers and collaborators did not stop growing, however, I never wanted to make that a source of income, I had no advertising or any other way to pay for it other than my own personal contribution, time, money, research and sacrifice.

For some of these investigations, I came without intending to establish an informal relationship via email with a certain Jason Borger, born and raised in the USA and son of a legendary fly fisherman, writer and photographer with several edited books and countless newspaper articles about the subject in various publications of that country.

Jason, following in his father's footsteps, was also a fly fisherman although he had other activities and among them one that powerfully caught my attention. He had been an advisor and a double in the movie "A river runs through it", here in my country the name was changed to adapt it to Spanish and our "idiosyncrasy" was named "Nothing is forever". Either way, the film is, in my opinion, excellent, and of course even better since its plot takes place in a rural setting and fly fishing is a shared pastime between father and children, central characters of the drama that unfolds.

Jason Borger was a double in the fishing scenes and in his own words he was the creator of a form of release of the artificial fly exclusively for the film, he called it “Shadow cast” and it takes place in a very well accomplished act when the character of Brad Pitt is fishing with the sun in front of the camera and the fisherman in the dark makes a rare launch. Great scene much appreciated by all of us who have this hobby.

The film was made in 1992 and is based on a novel autobiographical book by writer Norman Maclean, directed by Robert Redford with the performance of the aforementioned Brad Pitt and other good actors such as Tom Skerritt and Craig Sheffer. If you did not see it, I recommend it.

The relationship with Jason lasted some time, he even sent me some flies tied by him. Then we lost contact.

Por el año 2000 la internet no era ni la sombra de lo que es hoy, aun no existían las redes sociales salvo, como ya conté en otra publicación, las listas de correos. La Word Wide Web era un conjunto de páginas estáticas y los buscadores recién comenzaban a tomar fuerza e inteligencia.

Pero yo había inaugurado mi página web sobre pesca con mosca, por ese entonces estaba muy fanatizado con esa actividad y agregaba 4 o 5 notas todas las semanas, la cantidad de suscriptores y colaboradores no paraba de crecer, sin embargo jamás quise hacer de eso una fuente de ingresos, no tenía publicidades ni ninguna otra forma de solventarla más que mi propio aporte personal, de tiempo, dinero, investigación y sacrificio.

Por alguna de esas investigaciones llegué sin proponérmelo a entablar una informal relación vía correo electrónico con un tal Jason Borger, nacido y criado en USA e hijo de un legendario pescador con mosca, escritor y fotógrafo con varios libros editados e infinidad de artículos periodísticos sobre el tema en diversas publicaciones de ese país.

Jason, siguiendo los pasos de su padre, también era pescador con mosca aunque tenía otras actividades y entre ellas una que llamó poderosamente mi atención. Había sido asesor y doble en la película “A river runs through it”, aquí en mi país se le cambió el nombre para adaptarlo al español y a nuestra ¿idiosincrasia?, le pusieron “Nada es para siempre”. Como sea, la película es, según mi criterio, excelente, y por supuesto mejor aún dado que su trama se desarrolla en un ambiente rural y la pesca con mosca es un pasatiempo compartido entre padre e hijos, personajes centrales del drama que se desarrolla.

Jason Borger fue doble en las escenas de pesca y según sus propias palabras fue el creador de una forma de lanzamiento de la mosca artificial exclusiva para la película, la denominó “Shadow cast” y se desarrolla en una acto muy bien logrado cuando el personaje de Brad Pitt está pescando con el sol de frente a la cámara y el pescador entre penumbras realiza un lanzamiento poco común. Gran escena muy apreciada por todos los que tenemos este pasatiempo.

La película fue realizada en el año 1992 y está basada en un libro auto biográfico novelado del escritor Norman Maclean, dirigida por Robert Redford con la actuación del mencionado Brad Pitt y otros buenos actores como Tom Skerritt y Craig Sheffer. Si no la vieron, se las recomiendo.

La relación con Jason duró algún tiempo, inclusive me envió unas moscas atadas por él. Luego perdimos el contacto.
