The Weekend Contrast

While weekends start today around the world, our weekends end on a Saturday. It's nearing midnight and I'm craving a cup of latte. But I will respect my "no coffee after 4 pm" rule and call it an early night. I'm not mad for craving coffee at such a wrong time, but no beverage lifts my mood like a fresh cup of Latte, or a cappuccino. And I'm feeling pretty down right now. My two kid nieces lifts my mood in an instant but I can't hangout with them right now, and that partly is the reason why I'm feeling down. Hence the untimely craving for coffee.

No I didn't give in and make myself a cuppa, this is an old picture.

They've stayed with us for nearly 2 months and "holiday" is over. I just dropped them off at their house earlier this evening and drove back with barely working headlights of our car. Note : Gotta get that fixed ASAP.

They were supposed to go back yesterday, but the elder of the two managed to convince her mom and dad to stay the weekend. Naturally my whole weekend was spent with the kids. But first I got to do some fun grown up stuff, if you know what I mean hehe.

You know, like grocery shopping, picking up parcels for my mom, paying internet bills. Why, what did you think? ;)

Through the rest of yesterday, we baked "made up" cookies, played Splinterlands and I tried teaching the elder one how operate my espresso machine and I was pretty surprised how interested she was in the whole coffee making process. She even remembered all the equipment and clean up tools I used to grind my coffee beans a couple of weeks back. I guess we'll have another coffee freak in the family! Her excitement as the coffee dripped into the cup below was priceless!

This morning she woke up pretty irritated. Everything was getting to her nerves. She was distressed, restless. You could see it all over her face. She can generally be quite the trouble-maker but today she was mostly just sitting by herself in the balcony, watching sparrows. Her struggle with her emotions was vivid in her soft spoken words. This took me back 20 years down the dusty pages of memory, I had similar reactions when returning back from my grandma's home after a long stay. You wanna make the most of the last few hours, but you're emotionally too exhausted to try.

Everyday when I do my afternoon prayers, she would come and jump around my room making a mess, knowing I wouldn't be able to stop her as I'm in the prayer. Today she stood beside me on the prayer mat and repeated the maneuvers, maybe in search for some solace, calmness of the mind. Kids understand these things, I'm telling you. They understand a lot more than we think they do. The next hour or so we sat on rocking chair in balcony watching birds feast on worms for luncheon in the garden.

The next weekend is going to be rather mundane.

Sometimes an enjoyable cup of coffee can make or break a weekend. Sitting on a balcony watching birds feed is not a bad way to pass a day.

Truly spoken and I agree...It's not just the coffee, it's the whole package too.

Yes, it is the whole package. On a rainy morning, as the leaves get washed green, it's a sight to behold with a cup of coffee.

It's all about the ambiance!

I've always found that good company makes average food great, and the right setting or ambiance does too. 🙂

Absolutely, I will usually make an effort to make myself a fancy cuppa on the weekends. On weekdays I stick to plain black coffee.

Please explain to me the weekend ends on Saturday thing. I was talking to a user in Iran and he said weekends are Thursday and Friday in Iran, maybe it's the same where you are. Seems weird to me as traditionally here in Australia Saturday and Sundays are the weekend. I guess it's not so weird that other cultures have different structures though...In my opinion, a weekend is a weekend, no matter what day of the week it is!

Thanks for using the weekend community and I hope you will do so again.

Okay, so here's how it works.

I live in a muslim majority country. On fridays we have a special prayer. So our weekend starts on friday, meaning schools and offices are all shut from friday. Saturday is also part of the weekend.

Now, unlike many other countries where the week restarts on monday, our week restarts on sunday. Schools and office reopen from Sunday, hence weekends end on saturday.

Hope that made sense :)

Makes perfect sense, I figured it was a religious thing. It doesn't much matter though, a weekend is a weekend! 😉

Ah yes, I'll also sometimes turn on some sports podcasts on youtube while I have my morning or afternoon dose of coffee!

I love some coffee-and my nephews, too. They are grown up adults with kids of their own now, but I remember...

A cup of coffee can be much more than that. A port in a storm, some time to think or just the simple enjoyment of it.

Thanks for a wonderful review of your weekend. Even though next will be mundane...

Oh absolutely! Might sound crazy but there was a time, when I first started to learn making cappuccinos and lattes, I used to wake up 30 mins before I was normally supposed to because during the early days it took me quite a while to make it and then clean up afterwards. My then roommate didn't understand my "dedication" for that one cuppa in the morning, but he often said how fascinated he was by it!

A good cup used to set the tone for me for the rest of the day!

Thank you for dropping by :))
