Northern Finance Weekly - Doge, Charity and Helium!

I have always loved Leo Finance for the blockchain gateway it is for financial enthusiasts. I have held and staked tokens from the initial airdrop and supported my old friend @khaleelkazi just for the sake of it. Lately, I am really enjoying watching the innovation and progress from the VIP seats so I may as well contribute with some financial perspective from my wild world on https://leofinance.io/

This week, we are laughing at the Dogefather, getting active with more charity, and looking for the next big thing.

Blockchain/Crypto - Doge

You know you are a bunch of crypto nerds when you gather on discord to watch the Dogefather on Saturday Night Live. Some of us have been around long enough to remember the November 2017 episode of Big Bang Theory that featured bitcoin https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6674486/ and the subsequent parabolic crypto run.

Some of us have also been around the block enough time to know, when in doubt, buy the rumour and sell the news. This is definitely what happened on Saturday night. Some bears sold off big chunks leading up to the show and others bought it up in speculation for a big pump. I personally didn't overextend myself but had some chips on the table and interested enough to check it out.

Above is the Doge 15 minute chart which we had streaming right next to the awkward episode of SNL. As soon as Miley Cyrus started caterwauling with her smoker's throat, shit started to dive. There was plenty of volume and some ups and downs that ended up being more entertaining than the episode. Then, Elon was a guest on Weekend Update (The news poarody) and they were grilling him on what Dogecoin is. He talked about digital currency and supply and such but the punchline was "Ya, it's a scam" and the bottom fell out!

From a technical standpoint, it was neat to see the MACD cross downward (generally signaling a bear run) before the episode aired, and watching the pumps and dumps during the episode. Perhaps the latest round of crypto noobs will learn their Buy the Dip attitude and I believe this will not be the last huge pump you see with Doge. Perhaps rose-coloured glasses as I have amassed a pile of Doge from the $.06 level and am already hugely in the green.

Meatspace Finance - More Charity

tcmv2med.jpg

I am being bombarded by far right conspiracy theories and far left unquestioning of authority while trying to stay in the middle and do what I can do grow our Digital Marketing business @town-crier https://towncriermarketing.ca. Our strategy for the last year has been to make sure we are getting paid as a basic goal, but to put all of our efforts into working with those looking to cut some bait in these tough fishing times for small business.

In addition to that, we are working on our brand as a helper and pouring ourselves into community/charity work in doing so. We have delivered hundreds of meals to the hard-working front line workers who are tirelessly striving to protect health, stay in business, and keep the paycheques coming back to the home.

IMG_1191.jpg

Our latest venture was to rally 3 of the nicest restaurants in town, pair them with corporate sponsors, and deliver 75 free gourmet meals to the team at the local immunization clinic. It is amazing how many little things have to fall in place when organizing 8 different teams to pull this off but here we are gathering the meals from the third restaurant.

You can read more details of the story here on our company Hive Blog https://hive.blog/ocd/@town-crier/veterinarians-and-gym-owners-supporting-healthcare-workers Blockchain is a differentiator for us because it shows us primarily as ahead of the curve which is good for branding. Immediately, Hive is amazing for Search Engine Optimization as each post appears on dozens of websites from Hive.blog, Leo Finance, Peakd, and so many others. What this does is show Google that there are a great number of other websites linking back to those of our clients which plays a part in appearing in searches. There is so much more to it but the charity, SEO and message proliferation is gold for a small town digital marketing company cutting its teeth and building a huge book of clients.

Proof of Coverage?

image.png

Have you heard of Helium https://www.helium.com/ ? Our group of crypto enthusiasts and technicians are always on the lookout for the next big thing, and striving to be early adopters of something that will become big. Helium is branded as 'People-Powered Networks' and is a compelling use-case and initial launch.

I will leave you to uncover the more technical details but introduce you with the same intro pitch I was given.

image.png

At a high level, this is a network being built using Long-fi technology being deployed by individuals putting up access points/repeaters. I liken it to a cellular tower network where the points all talk to each other and provide coverage.

There are only just over 30,000 of these access points deployed globally as the infant network grows through the efforts of early adopters. Why would someone invest ~$500 in a network device simply to help build a low bandwidth, redundant network which isn't even to the point where you can onboard corporate clients looking for connectivity for a fleet of devices like wireless hydro smart meters, fleet tracking solutions, or anything else that sends small digital packets for specific reasons? Pure speculation I guess.

That and the first round of the project is rewarding Proof of Coverage in the form of Helium Tokens https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/helium/ which are appreciating nicely and already ranking at #89 in crypto market capitalization at and FDMC of $3.833 Billion. Did I mention there is apparently a partnership with Google?

You can see I am really glossing over the details but wanted to share an opportunity and leave the research & diligence to those also having fun looking for the next big thing. Check it out if you haven't and tell me what you think.

Awesome stuff! I hear you about trying to find the middle ground. I probably lean a bit more left than most, but I am okay with that. I'm just trying to do what I can to keep my family safe and be as empathetic as possible. Awesome on the charity front. That is amazing work you are doing. I wrote a post about Helium a while ago. It is interesting to look at the map and see all of the locations it is deployed. It looks like their is a fairly robust IoT network down in Port Huron, MI. My thinking is the local municipality is using it to monitor sewage and water pumps throughout the city.

That is what I explained it as to someone wondering who would use a low bandwidth, decentralized wireless network. Our local utility company had to spend $10 million to run fiber to poles and mount access points in order for the smart meters to spit a couple kilobits of data in a non time-sensitive manor. A fraction of that could have been spent leveraging a network like this and the money poured back into more of the community.

Indeed. If the up front equipment costs weren't so high I would look into starting a node myself. If you are in a dense area with lots of activity I think it could be quite lucrative.

$400 USD is not that much. It is the delay from ordering to delivery that is concerning. Who knows what the proof of coverage will be 4 months from now. If they are the same, you will get the $400 back in the first or second month.

True, I don't think my wife would see it that way though :) The delivery is also a definite concern. Are you putting in an order? I'd love to hear some real first hand experience about it aside from promotional articles that might not tell the whole truth.

Yep!

Ordered a couple 11 days ago and now the waiting game begins. I will have to update when I have it installed and rewards happen. Unfortunately, because of backorder due to demand and regional certification, you have to order now to get in on the game in a few months time.

Fun to learn about anyway and I will let you know how it goes.

I noticed on the map there is one near where I work. Just in some farm community bout in the middle of nowhere. I can't imagine he is pulling in much. My even sure what he would be running on it.

As I understand it, there isn't much running on them. They are being rewarded for Proof of Coverage as they incentivize the rollout of the network. If there are no other access points talking to it, I think the rewards will be next to nothing. Though I think you can see the rewards in the map?

Good to be there first and either encourage friends to buy one or get another one so they validate eachother.

Yeah, that is a good point. I need some love from alt season before I can afford all of that!

Yah!

I like the mobilization/empowerment of all the individual people sticking it to the man, the press making everyone else feel a little more left out, the mooning of EOS and Doge and what that will mean for $Hive!
