Last month I remember finding myself in a difficult situation with a vendor who promised me an amazing service but delivered below average. I was bitter and I've still refused to complete the payment for his service.

In Nigeria, there's this thing we do where we accept less than average just because we feel lucky to have even been offered a service. An instance is how lucky people feel when a cashier at the bank treats them with respect, as if this isn't supposed to be the norm.

A lot of times, we hear of wealthy people dressing broke just to receive disrespect and buy off entire businesses in anger. I can understand why that happens. I would do just that if I had the careless resources. I've been treated badly by people just because I require their service.

On several occassions, I've lost my temper and caused a brief scene at places just because of this. And you know what's absurd? I'm considered the crazy person in these situations.

A person talks rudely to me and I respond with disapproval at their response towards me and I get shut down by other customers who are treated badly for causing a scene. It irritates me. You should be angry when you don't get treated with respect. Without you these people won't get paid.

In the situation I was in last month, I wasn't given the chance to direct my anger properly. The person behind the shitty service decided to be completely disrespectful and refuse to take my calls. So, I've decided to take the cue and hold back payment. He'll survive without my petty money.

This attitue is particular with Nierian clothing designers. Not only do they slug around completing their jobs and not keep to an agreed time, they also feel the need to be disrespectful when they assume your account balance doesn't match that of their other clients.

Surviving such a situation can be tough, especially when your money is received with insults, so what I've learnt is to lose my cool and not let you have peace for just the right amout of time and I'm not a hot tempered person.

Certain situations make a sane person look crazy just because they demand respct that's rightfully theirs. It's the society we live in, we have to be abnormal to get what we want, I've learnt the hard way.
