Learning from the kids

I learn a lot from kids. Especially my nephews as I live with them. It has been a fun journey lately. I hardly have the time to play with them but I try to listen when I can and have discussions with them.

Recently I started thinking about how much comfort they enjoy and how they are entitled to their comfort. They can't help it. They are privileged. They currently have their life built and running around their little inexpensive comforts.

The younger one is 5 years old. He doesn't have many needs as far as he knows. He has a weird eating habit. It bothers everyone. He could go an entire day on biscuits. He hates meat. Says he's a vegetarian. Only likes Golden morn cereal and would rather eat his Harry without soup. He also likes eating fufu like a snack.

Nigerians would understand how weird this is.

The older one is 6 going on 7. He also has a weird eating habit. He only likes jollof rice. So sometimes when we can't make it, we mix white rice and stew to look like it and he can't tell the difference. He also loves bread and eggs so I guess he has his balance diet sorted out.

As much as these seem cheap, they are comforts that have to be provided consistently. They are accustomed to these things. They will always need them.

Then, I think about myself. What kind of comforts am I accustomed to?

I eat twice a day. And I've learned that I can't always get what I want to so I usually just eat what's available. I live as a guest wherever I go. I try not to be too demanding.

And really, even when I lived alone, getting what I need all the time wasn't so easy. All I had to do was get by.

I realized that an aspect of adulthood is learning to not be too picky. Well, I'm still learning.

I guess I have my guilty pleasures like alcohol and data. But I would place these under the same category as television and soda for the boys. Guilty pleasures.

Fufu without soup? That's definitely something to worry about.

Actually, I am someone that eats a lot, I ain't picky, I eat it all. But sometimes, I do find myself giving less attention to food and more to work. I guess it's just part of growing up, you get to adjust to new living habits, it just happens.

You love alcohol? I got a drunk sister at home, lol.

Alcohol comes in handy coz I have a very limited social life. Can't say I'm much of a drunk. I've actually never been drunk before.
