Trumpman's Treasury #12 - 1000 Kwacha Year Calendar Coin (2000)

It's been a while since I posted something from my treasury, hasn't it? 

So, today I have something intriguing. It's a coin that until very recently I thought was made of silver. It's shiny after all! But first, a little on how I got my hands on it.

It was about 15 years ago I think, when as part of a.. part time job I helped clean a house that belonged to a mentally ill person. That house was full of junk and also full of stuff that actually had value. And the deal was more or less... Help clean the mess, keep whatever you like... And oh boy.. You can't imagine the mess... Puke, shit, rotten food, anything you can imagine. And somewhere in the piles of crap this little fella was waiting for its new owner. Me.

So, this is a collective coin of 1000 Kwacha issued by the Bank of Zambia in 2000. Now, as I mentioned before, this coin has no silver or other precious metals in it. Despite it's shiny appearance I recently found that it's made of a plain Copper-nickel alloy. Yet, it's very beautiful, big and heavy. It just deels damn nice on the palm. And each piece goes for about 25 bucks on ebay which is imo weird as according to google 1000 Kwacha is approximately 55 bucks in today's prices!

On the front side the coin features a Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the other a dated calendar of the year after the coin was minted. Mine is a first generation so the calendar is that of 2001... Not really useful in 2020, lol:

All in all, a nice coin despite it's lack of precious metals. Has some collectible value and a fun story behind it. A keeper!
