WHAT CRYPTOCURRENCIES ARE ALL ABOUT // DE QUE VAN LAS CRIPTOMONEDAS

Hello everyone! I am learning every day a little more about this complex world of cryptocurrencies and the truth is that every day I am more and more fascinated. It has not been easy to learn, so I want to write this post, to let you know what I have learned so far, after much reading and watching videos.

The reality is that when you write about what you read and see, you reinforce your learning, so this post is written with a double intention, on the one hand to inform those who like me, are learning to swim in this world and on the other hand, to reinforce what I have learned so far, so without further ado here I go:

What cryptocurrencies are all about
It turns out that cryptocurrencies are actually decentralized digital money, and they are also called virtual currency or cryptocurrency. With them you can make digital payments or transfers to other people just by having a virtual wallet and being connected to the internet.

You do not need the intermediation of a bank and they are not under the legal regime of countries or governments. The only thing you need to start using digital money is to have the cryptocurrency, have a wallet or electronic wallet and have internet.

Cryptocurrencies are currencies that are not under legal regulation of any country, such as the dollar in the United States or the Bolivar in Venezuela, which are usually referred to as Fiat currency, that is, they are under government regulations.

History of Cryptocurrencies
The concept of cryptocurrency was first used in 1998, by Wei Dai, who "proposed the idea of creating a new type of decentralized money using cryptography as a means of control", but it was not until 2009, when the first cryptocurrency BITCOIN began to operate, its developer was Satoshi Nakamoto, it is understood that it is his pseudonym, currency that in the last year has had a substantial increase in its value.

Since this first cryptocurrency was developed, countless cryptocurrencies have appeared, such as Litecoin, Primecoin, Ripple, Ethereum, Dash, among others, and their number continues to increase.

What is the universe behind cryptocurrencies.
Understanding how cryptocurrencies work is a headache, because I am not a programmer, nor a developer of programs, apps, or platforms, so it is an unknown world for me, but I will make an attempt to explain what I understand about the process.

Cryptocurrencies work through blockchain technology, behind which are miners, who use their computers or other specialized hardware to validate and date transactions by adding them to a collective database, which reinforces their integrity, security and balance, avoiding incorrect issuance of the currency and avoiding duplication. This is the only thing I can understand, there are miners who are in charge of making and calculating the transactions, as well as ensuring the security of the cryptocurrency system and as a reward they mine, that is, they obtain cryptocurrencies.

Cryptocurrencies as an Investment
In recent months we have seen a boom in the movement of cryptocurrencies or at least that is what I have felt since I started reading about them. Especially the dizzying rise of Bitcoin which has increased rapidly since the beginning of 2020 and is currently trading at USD $51,498.

Of course this rise of the Bitcoin, attracts a lot of attention to investors who hope to invest in it to have a profit from its increase. The truth, financial trading seems to me a dangerous game, because it is about selling when the shares or cryptocurrencies are down, hoping to make a profit if they go up, but my question is; and if the currency goes down ... obviously you lose money. It seems like a very random game to me, but I know there are people who are in the system and doing very well.

I would think of cryptocurrencies as a form of savings, since being digital assets, their value is maintained, at least at a much more balanced value than the bolivar, a Fiat currency highly affected by Venezuela's hyperinflation.

Government controls.
Given the boom in the use of cryptocurrencies in financial transactions, countries are making an attempt to develop legal frameworks that prevent people from doing illicit acts with these currencies. Truth be told, I don't know how they will achieve this, but in the coming months we are going to see pronouncements on the matter, as is already happening in Spain, where they passed a Draft Bill, which lays the groundwork on the use of cryptocurrencies.

I hope this post helps a little to people like me, who are learning about this enigmatic world. Thank you very much for reading me, please leave your comments, I would love to feedback with you.
