Leofinace : The Initiative Of 10

Over the last couple weeks, I put together a number of posts mentioning how it is up to make Leofinance a place which is thriving.

The reason is simple: with new LEO initiatives meant to onboard new users, especially from the Ethereum world, we need to show this place to be thriving for those who show up here.

After nobody, few are going to return if the place is rather dead.

One of the best ways to stimulate engagement is through comments. So far, it looks like the community is doing a pretty good job of this.

Nevertheless, I wanted to toss out an idea and see if we could gain a commitment from a decent percentage of the community.

Source

Here is the "Initiative of 10".

What does this mean?

Simply it is a target that each of us sets daily in terms of the number of comments we will leave. As many of us are already spending a fair bit of time on Leofinance, reading many posts throughout the day, it only makes sense for us to put up a comment when going through someone's post.

Therefore, can we get a large group of people to each commit to posting 10 comments per day. If one is already spending the time on Leofinance, it is not out of the realm. Many are already doing that and to those, I commend you.

If you are willing to make a public commitment, please let us know in the comment section.

Comment Buddy

This is another idea I had to try and really jump start the activity.

Essentially, the idea is to get with someone else as a "comment buddy" to put together a "conversation" in a post at least once a day. We all have seen this where a couple people are engaging in a "conversation", going back and forth. This ultimately puts up dozens of comments as others tend to join in.

Under this scenario, we each get with someone else in an effort to promote this idea. Imagine if there were 5-10 teams doing this in different posts, we could see hundreds of comments in total being place.

Again, this is something that is meant to lay the foundation for others to follow. Too many posts have little to no engagement. This is something that is within our control to change. Essentially, the goal is to get a handful of posts to register 20-30 comments. On daily basis, this would have great impact.

We all saw those posts on Steem/Hive that ended up with a hundred of more comments. Some of the "discussions" in them went on for what seemed like pages of scrolling down.

While we cannot expect this in most posts, it would be great to get a few that fall into this category. Of course, this is not exclusive to Leofinance since all activity is shown on the other front ends.

Therefore, if a number of us get together and start these conversations, on a daily basis, we can see a radical increase in engagement within certain posts.

Once again, let me know your thoughts in the comment section.

Ever since I became active on leofinance I comment much more on posts around here than I am on Peakd for example. I don't have a *generous feed though' and sometimes I find myself refreshing the page once in a while just to see if something new has hit it. I am confident though that I'll make much more and stronger connections over the following weeks and that won't be an issue any longer. Your initiative makes sense and it's so great to see that marketing is part of the growing process for leofinance and not only under the hood improvements.

Understand @acesontop.

Personally, I go through the recent posts page a great deal to find what newer posts are put up on there. Many are from people not on my following list which helps to spread things out.

Whatever works is what is important.

I like this idea, I hope it gains traction. I'm going to try 5 or more a day and 10 on the weekends and see how that goes. I'm really busy at work and can't play on the computer so I will do what I can.

Thanks for the comment @tbnfl4sun.

I understand that some have work issues making a time constraint. Nevertheless, it is good to have a goal and yours seems reasonable.

Glad you are trying to help our numbers.

We all should be doing what we can. I am fortunate I probably have more time than most people.

The key is for many to do what they can as opposed to a few people do it all.

Online the numbers game is where it is at. More activity is spurred on by large numbers of users. Until the users show up, it is up to us to add in the areas that we feel we can contribute.

Thanks @coyotelation.

I hope it takes off. Many do not have the time to engage as they would like or the numbers mentioned here.

However, for those of us who do, it would be great if we could get a couple dozen involved.

Due a rather skewed and hectic work schedule at the moment, I can't make really any promises like this, but I can definitely promise you, and everyone else, that I will comment as much as possible. When time allows, I already have plans to set a daily/weekly amount of comments to make, and I will strive to beat my own goal further on as well. After all, engagement is key.

That is all we can ask @hitmeasap.

Each of us can do a little bit more even if time constrained. Those who have a bit more flexible schedule can help to compensate for those who lack the time.

Glad to see you on here.

Glad to see you on here.

Truth to be told, it's been a rather long time since I felt this type of motivation for anything on Steem/Hive, so I'm definitely here to stay. LEO looks very promising. I just hope we will steer this ship in the right direction immediately, instead of trying to steer it back once we're basically lost at sea. Which, in all honesty, feels like the current status for Hive.

Anything to increase and improve engagement and/or diversified content on LEO is more than welcome, and sits close at heart.

I feel Hive is on the right path, first time in a long time. With Steemit Inc out of the way, things are actually starting to get done.

I disagree with the idea of promoting Hive in terms of marketing, that is for the layer 2 apps in my opinion. Get people signed up through them, and it all feeds into Hive.

Leofinace is starting to unleash the potential that resides, something many of the tribes are starting to realize.

Over time, many will copy aspects of Leo that work and implement it onto their chain.

Getting rid of Steemit Inc was obviously a good thing.. I don't know, maybe I just thought things would be different than they are. Perhaps that's why I can't really see that Hive is on the right path.. I probably expected more.

*I disagree with the idea of promoting Hive in terms of marketing, that is for the layer 2 apps in my opinion. *

That is very true. What I would've wanted is proper marketing for Hive from the start, but it all came down to the same type of marketing as before, as we saw on Steem. The twitter movements etc. Even though I am glad and appreciate all the work they are doing with those types of initiatives and movements, I would've preferred to see them promote the communities instead of Hive.

  • Niche specific marketing.

I'm sure we would've seen so much greater results if we did that instead of these "spam-type" tweets we've seen for the past 2-3 years or so. It feels about time to change things.

People need to realize that being a decentralized entity means there is nobody heading that type of stuff up. To expect it will end up in frustration since it is nobody's place to head it up.

Ironic that online, the idea of mass advertising isnt necessarily the path to success. Facebook, after all, spread like wildfire without any marketing..it was all word of mouth among college students.

I have a feeling the right communities could tap into the proper niche and attract a bunch of serious people. It is easier for dedicated people about a particular subject start to interact with other dedicated people on the same subject.

I know blogs that have 20,000 users a month commenting, a wordpress based one, that got that way simply based upon word of mouth. It is a particular sports team, which is, obviously, very loyal with the following.

People need to realize that being a decentralized entity means there is nobody heading that type of stuff up.

I know it's decentralized and all, but we still have "Kings", "Queens", and "Leaders", and we've basically seen the same people "on the top" since the Steem days.

Those specific users could've used their influence a long time ago and tried something different. That's why I feel Hive is stagnant, because they're literally trying the same thing over and over. At least, that's how it feels like. And if I feel like that, as someone who's been here since 2016, I wouldn't really be surprised if that's how the "masses" feel as well.

it was all word of mouth among college students.

Which is exactly why I want people to focus more on WOMM, (word of mouth marketing). LEO and/or Hive feels too complex for a short elevator pitch. It takes time to learn and understand things here, meanwhile it doesn't take much time to upload a profile picture, write a status update and send friend requests..

The Metamask sign up really simplifies things, that is what I like about it. People are not slammed by the idea of multiple keys and all that goes along with it. They can simply come in and operate like they do on any other social media site. Over time the rest can be learned.

As for the "leaders" it is vital to remember most of them are technical in nature, not marketers or even business oriented. Also, while they were in place for a while, it is a big move from the early days when it was Ned, Dan L, and Steemit Inc holding all the cards.

The next phase of Hive's evolution is to go from the 30-50 influencers we have now to 250. I believe this happens by creating other wealth centers via the other projects/tokens. From there, HP can be acquired which will change governance. This is something that few talk about but it is a necessary progression. Demand for HIVE will also come from the need to switch out the main actors since many will not want their wealth in the hands of those who are presently there.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Indeed, Metamask is a really nice thing. That will make things a lot easier.

Most "leaders" are technical, I know. Which is why I actually liked the idea of rewarding people for promoting Steem in the early days. Unfortunately, they paid the wrong type of people for not-so-great advertising back in those days. Most likely because none of them knew how good marketing would've looked like..

I truly hope we'll see the next Hive phase, it's a needed one. I agree with you to 100% about going from what we have to more influencers. That is one of the reasons I've always wanted to strengthen the middle class and ultimately the foundation, (meaning the lesser accounts). I'm sure things would've been different by doing that from the start.

Yeah all part of decentralization. We have to do what we can to keep pushing things further out. It isnt easy especially since people will act in their own interest. That is where DPOS comes in. Our opinions mean little, it all comes down to stake.

Thus, to get the next group of influencers, we need to generate new wealth centers so people have the resources to alter their standing on Hive. A few million HP banded together can make a difference in governance by swapping a few witnesses out for new ones. Change our 4 or 5, and we are starting to talk about a different game.

Leofinance could be the first where people will be able to acquire tens of thousands of Hive from their profits. If that starts to happen, I think the spigot will just get more powerful.

True the future of this blockchain lies ahead with improved engagement and building by the communities. We just have to see a way in which rewards can be pushed into this end to encourage more collaboration among members.

That is where layer 2 comes in and the communities themselves determine how important mass distribution is.

On LEO, the focus appears to be helping others to grow their account so we have a token distribution and economy that is resilient.

I seem that Commenting make us better relationship and stronger community.
May I say as a Metamask Signed Up account holder,
In binding Metamask and LeoFinance,
We can swap or convert from $LEO to $ETH. But, we can't swap or convert from ETH to LEO, I seem.
It is better for Metamask user if we swap or convert from ETH to LEO / LEO to ETH .

This might be the right place to make some promotion for the two weekly commenting-games I run. First is on the @spinvest account to guess the Bitcoin price and second is on my own account to guess the ETH price. Please share them with the community, interact and also win.

This would be an awesome game. I hope Dalz can track the daily comment stats on Leofinance frontend. Certainly peaking 1000 comments daily from 100 active posters would help moon the SEO of leofinance.io. This is because it increases the time-on-site for the website.

Sure that would be a great way to do it. After a few weeks of working the system out, maybe we can put together a contest to encourage people do get involved. Exempt a few of the bigger accounts that are active in commenting and inspire some of the smaller accounts a change to add to their stake.

I also like to upvote comments, it makes me feel generous. LOL

It not only is generous, it is a powerful tool to penetrate the whole that is the Internet.

"Comments" are essentially what is all over social media. Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook are all filled with more comments than actual posts. This is where the conversations takes place.

By rewarding that, we suddenly are monetizing something that had no value to the user before. This is a huge step.

Not everyone is going to make videos or posts 1,000 word articles. But almost all can post a few comments, especially if they are being rewarded.

I certainly like the idea and increasing engagement can only help the whole platform.
That said, I'm not sure about the number 10 myself, as I'm a bit afraid I'd end with making a comment or two each day just so I reach the daily goal even if I had nothing to say on the topic at hand.
Because of that, I'll start with 5 daily comments and see how that works out for me. If I feel comfortable with that number, I'll slowly increase it every other day!

Just using the eye test, I bet you are close to that level also.

It was one of the things that kept me going early on on Steem - i think one comment I made earned $20.

How times have changed!

But here on LEO we can now reward comments with a decent chunk - not quite what it was during the crazy 2017 times, but being able to earn $1 for a comment, that takes me back to the mind set where i'm thinking 'why isn't everyone after a piece of this?!?

I'll give it a try but can't make a commitment right now. The cryptoverse is quite vast for me as I am trying to learn more and more each day on a limited time.

For me "comments" are building block of our own account though most of time it is not "monetarily" rewarding but it has great "intangible" benefits.

I hope people will keep comment genuinely, not for the purpose of getting rewards but little incentive that will fuel growth of users and LEO will be nice.

Let make it simple. Comment is natural when posts are unique and attract people to comments. I just comment two or three daily to posts that attract me. I hope the posts in leo is also breadened to wider topics, relaxed and fun. Not merely about crypto spheres.

Engagement is a big plus, it helps a place look alive, look like a thriving community, and it does not take much time at all, if you read a post, drop a line say thanks, ask a question if you are unsure of something that was mentioned. Basically leave a comment you would enjoy reading if someone left it on a post of yours, and soon you will find you have not just one comment buddy, but dozens.

I think this is the right direction to travel, this is what is going to drive the growth of LeoFinance and of Hive.

I found this blog because @onealfa mentioned it in his.
As I already commented on his blog I think this is a really good idea.
My reaction to his blog was the following:

I wrote a blog about my first month on Hive recently. And the lack of comments was one of the things that was a bit disappointing.
I mainly create photography related posts and most of those received many upvotes but hardly any comments.
I would rather receive more constructive comments than automated blind upvotes.

And then I read this in your blog which got me thinking...

Therefore, can we get a large group of people to each commit to posting 10 comments per day. If one is already spending the time on Leofinance, it is not out of the realm. Many are already doing that and to those, I commend you.

If you are willing to make a public commitment, please let us know in the comment section.

I'm willing to commit I will try to post more comments, but maybe we can do more.
I see a lot of people using banners under their posts to promote something. What if we create a banner to promote commenting and voting on comments. Users could add the banner to their blogs showing they support this. Eventually you could point the banner to a blog with some explanation.

Just an idea :)

Fantastic initiative, I had not seen this article, it had passed me by thanks to @onealfa, for a few days I had been doing it on weekends to have time in those good articles, but today I accidentally got up at 5 am and started I insist and without knowing I saw that I had been benefited by receiving good feedback, likewise good points of view are obtained in financial matters which is something we have worked on sometimes as an aditor, therefore I know a little about the subject, so good we are still around here always commenting hoping this works, thanks for the initiative.

That is a very cool initiative! In fact, one of the most promising since the early days of Steem when we had a "Community Engagement Challenge" that ran for a couple of weeks and literally generated upwards of a thousand new comments per day. Much like this, it was initiated by a single person as a "contest" where the daily challenge per contestant was on the order of one top level post and 30 comments a day for 10 days... it was a lot of work, and a lot of fun.

I discovered this post a bit "late," but I think I can probably manage 10 comments a day!

Thank you for this reminder brother. I read a lot of leo posts from people like you and jrcornel and edicted and others on a regular basis but i haven't been commenting much lately for some reason. I also don't feel very competent writing articles about finance (part of the reason I've been reading you guys) since that is not my strongest area (which sucks frankly). consequently I have felt a bit left in the dust by the leo train. From now on I'm going to start commenting more regularly. maybe someday you'll even see an article from me with the leo tag ;)
