Steem: Capable Of Expansions For Newer People

avatar

"I feel it is already too late".

This was said to me by someone years back regarding cryptocurrency. This individual, because there was a slight run in Bitcoin pricing (before the 2017 moonshot), he felt the opportunity was gone.

Unfortunately, he was not completely wrong. There is one sense that this is correct and it tends to affect the entire crypto world. It also seems to be inherent in gaming also.

@dalz wrote a terrific piece about this a while back that I suggest everyone check out.

The challenge is that cryptocurrency favors the early adopters. This is a good thing since they are the ones who tend to be taking a bigger risk. However, for newer people, it can be a bit of a deterrent.

Who here would not like to get involved in Bitcoin at $2? Obviously, those days are long gone. That does not mean that the opportunity to profit from BTC does not exist. What is evident is that the 90,000% move might be over.

Such is life, correct?

When it comes to something like Bitcoin, that is the situation. However, when looking at Steem we see another opportunity developing. There is the ability to cater to newcomers in such a way that they, too, can be early adopters. With the introduction of Steem-Engine and, soon, SMTs, we could see the story repeating itself over and over.

We are starting to see gaming become a bigger feature on Steem. The same principle applies to the gaming world. We see those who get involved in the games first have a big advantage. Again, we can say such is life but if expansion and growth is sought after, there needs to be mechanisms in place that appeal to the newer people.

This is where @dalz mentioned the "game within the game". It would be beneficial for developers to put in some layers that are focused upon the newer players and giving them an opportunity to make it on their own.

What this means is to have a possibility to easily create a new layer in the current game that will start from zero and provide new players a better chance for making on their own. This will mean that you will not run away from the game, or fight at the base level, but just create a new corner in it that will suit you better. If more players join that corner and start using the resources there, it will go up and be valuable. It may grow even bigger than the base layer of the game. Who knows!

For things like this to happen the base layer of the game should be designed in that way to provide easily creation of new game layers. Provide the freedom to create new systems in it, not just the predetermined that will always be in favor of the ones who started first.

An interesting concept that could really appeal to newer players which, in turn, could accelerate growth. Through the utilization of tokens, it is easy to see how that could be done. Perhaps there is a different token created at a certain point in time that is solely for the "lower" levels. Thus, those who have not ascended to a certain point could be rewarded in that, which can be converted into pieces at the higher levels. Or, there could be some NFTs that are only available in the lower realms. The key here is that they have value and can be traded on an exchange either as a "cash out" or for other resources to move up.

One of the biggest appeals I think Steem has is this is, to a degree, already in place. With the introduction of Steem-Engine and Tribes, people have the ability to create whatever they want. Thus, newer people might have a very tough time getting Steem. Perhaps getting a significant amount of PAL is too tough. There is the option, however, of starting something new and rewarding one's Tribe/Community. Of course, this will only expand with Communities and SMTs.

The fact that people are basically going to be able to duplicate Steem (mini-Steems if you will) means that the new people are not operating from a deficit. It is true that the main token will be this way, as will some of the earlier tribes. Yet the fact that anyone can quickly roll out one on his or her own means that the same opportunity is present all the time.

Personally, I do not feel we have seen the entity that is going to have the most value on Steem. We should not be surprised if there is a project that grows to the point it is more valuable than even STEEM. Ultimately, there will come a time when Steem will drift into the background the same way that AWS is not noticed when watching Netflix.

It is also why I feel that great wealth will be created on Steem. Newer projects has the same chance of attracting a crowd as older ones. In fact, it might be easier since those who are already using the platform are apt to at least check the new projects out. Let us look at @HolyBread. That went to about 1,500 players in a week. They were able to ride the success of gaming on Steem (mainly Splinterlands) that went before it.

The repeatable process of making people early adopters provides them with the ability to generate out-sized rewards. Since a main part of Web 3.0 is individuals sharing in the proceeds of online success, this is a valuable attribute. To me, the power of DApp creation cannot be overlooked.

It is only a matter of time before the general public realizes the ability to generate itself a lot of money by applying sociability, creativity, and ingenuity.

We are seeing the tools being developed to give that to people. It will be up to them to utilize it.

Thanks for the shout out!

If we make easier for people to start whatever they want here and do it in a simple way, that will be a great thing for the platform as a whole. It will attract new users/developers and they can create their own thing, with their own currency, tokenomics, rewards etc... Using just the base infrastructure and the resource credits system for it .... and of course the Steem community that is acting like a testing user base for the dApps :)

Yep I agree completely. The only thing we need to worry about is making our blockchain the most attractive place for this big thing to be built. The fact we can't pay developers or fund projects with the resources like EOS and Ether can (plus we don't have the track record) puts us at a disadvantage to them. Though, that doesn't mean we won't see that thing built here if we truly do have the better mouse trap. We need to make sure we scream steem from the mountain tops when the time is right... and that time might be coming within the next several months to years.

I also agree with what you mention here @jrcornel.

There are a lot of wonderful attributes and reasons to build on Steem. It is a matter of making people aware.

I do see your timeline. I think the next few months will see the start of the timing when we need to pull out our megaphones and start the noise.

Dear @taskmaster4450

Interesting choice of topic. And thank you for sharing link to @dalz publication. Will definetly check it out as well.

The challenge is that cryptocurrency favors the early adopters.

Correct me if I'm wrong - however based on my experience, most early adopters on STEEM blockchain lost most of their resources (since steem price tanked). I would say that those who joined within past few months will enjoy benefits the most.

Also tokens launched on SE (with very few exceptions) proved that majority of early adopters (who were interested with those tokens) end up on the losing end.

Games on steem are indeed becoming more popular, however I didn't find one game so far which would allow users to join if they do not yet have account on steem. And all games I've tried do not allow to create new account without going through extreme difficult process.

Yours, Piotr
