dCity: A Few Questions?

avatar

So I have kept away from dCity until yesterday when I thought I would have a go. I had some spare HIVE due to selling Blurt and so why not try yet another HIVE game.

image.png

There are a bunch of tutorials about but still, I found a few things that I couldn't answer. This post is more of a 'I have some questions' than anything more informative.

Is there some kind of log to tell me about things happening? After a few hours I found that a crime rate had been added and in this case, it appeared on the map.

Crime.JPG

What does this mean? 5% of my earned SIM could disappear, or something else?

For a while, I struggled to figure out the differences between the 1st Edition and 2nd Edition. Since then the statistics have become apparent but why a 2nd edition?

Is 1st Edition going to be discontinued at some point in time? Why even have a second edition.

image.png

Is it better to buy cards from the marketplace than gamble on spending 4 HIVE per random card? If there is a great reason to create more NFT’s, and some of these cards are going for crazy money then please do tell.

This game is even more laid back than CryptoBrewmaster. I have been watching my city and hoping someone would come along and join but it’s not happened.

image.png
...'69 popularity and still nobody is joining my city.... sniff'

Am I right in saying that a high popularity rating attracts more citizens, including the homeless?

Is the level of SIM income dependent on your rank? I know HIVE is but I am miles away from getting there.

image.png
image.png
...'39 SIM or 75 SIM?, just how much am I gonna get!'...

My stats tell me I have a 3% chance of new citizens joining my city in 2h. Is that 2 hours, it’s always 2 hours and never changes!

NewCitizens.JPG

I was hoping for a little more excitement after being carried away a little yesterday and spending more HIVE on this than I would have liked.

Passive income is always good and it’s another early HIVE game that appears stable. I will keep going on dCity, and hope that future additions are going to add some spice to the game.

I couldn't even get past the opening screen. I had no clue what was going on, so good luck to you! One of my other games goes public tomorrow, so I am really excited about that.

Crime: What does this mean? 5% of my earned SIM could disappear, or something else?

Certain buildings can be robbed, Bank, Shoppping Mall, Casino. When robbed you loose out a share of your daily SIM income. Somewhere in the range 100 to 400.

Is 1st Edition going to be discontinued at some point in time?

Yes, should happen soon, although only gerber knows the exact date.
This game started quite unpolished, at the first month it was "played" only in discord.
The number of cards in the first edition is very limited.

Is it better to buy cards from the marketplace than gamble on spending 4 HIVE per random card?

This is basically your preference. Similar to Splinterlands, although I think here the cards from the house have decent value. There is no special cards going for crazy money from the house.
The most expensive cards are the high tier tech cards, that are given for free daily. The highest your education rate the higher the probability.

Am I right in saying that a high popularity rating attracts more citizens, including the homeless?

Yes, and you get mostly homeless :)

Is the level of SIM income dependent on your rank?

No it depends from your card collection. Each card has income, and the sum of those gives your total SIM income.
SIM is distributed daily.

My stats tell me I have a 3% chance of new citizens joining my city in 2h. Is that 2 hours, it’s always 2 hours and never changes!

Yes, every two hours. Although you will need to up your popularity for this.

At the end, yes its not very dynamic game, the main point is buying/selling cards and optimize your city. Make sure you have enough workers or not to much of it.

Also you can vote for president, who will then set your taxes, increase or decrease your SIM income, or set taxes that favor some buildings/cards, increasing their income :).

Great response.. thanks, I noticed my crime went up another 2% after the daily payout. Is this an ongoing thing?

I'm guessing if you want to focus on return, the answer is to not bother with technology?

No it depends from your card collection. Each card has income, and the sum of those gives your total SIM income.

So the rank is related to HIVE earnings only?

Yes the rank is for hive only.
Crime is updated every 24h.

Buy buying lots of cop shops? My SIM earnings were 303 last night, now they are 284. Does this mean I was robbed?

How can you tell without some kind of log?

Nah that's just taxes.

Part of it is set by the president you elect. Part of it is based on SIM price.

Oh.., so what happens when you get robbed? How can you tell.

It will show up during the daily update.

You'll see the red minus numbers along with your green income on the left side.

OK got it. I guess I can't tell what my new crime rate is until payout time when everything is updated? I did a lot of upgrades last night and nothing changed re: the crime rate.., it's not very dynamic is it?

Yeah it recalculates at pay time.

.. and what do you do with Immigrants and Homeless. Can you sell them, who would want to buy them? I got one overnight.

You could sell them, but some people have enough Job Centers to turn them into other citizens like scientists, workers, etc.

I saw the Job Centre's, but how do they work? Do you continually get chances to convert them over time or is it just a one-off chance when they enter your city?

0

Each centre gives 3% chance a day to train an immigrant or homeless if you have positive popularity.

Job tax can make them 6%. And you can go over 100% for multiple trainings a day.

This was rad. I had zero knowledge except that the game existed. Thanks for the answers Dalz and for taking the leap Slobberchops.

Homeless in dCity and someone needs to hire more cops! Lol.

I think it needs more work. When something happens, you don't what! That or I don't know where to look yet.

After you mentioned it to me I've thrown a few HIVE at it. Spent it in the market to get more items for my money and will see what happens.

The payout time appears to be around 6pm GMT, watch out for your crime rating going up.

The "president" which you elect based on your SIM holdings can tinkering with police tax.

The tax also affects crime rate reduction by them.

I just wonder how realistic it gets. I am still learning about the mechanics. It looks like there is lots to play with.

Get in discord mate but it looks like @dalz has you covered! Glad to see you on board. Aim for Sim income rather than population.
Thing is, it's a tinkering game. You can yourself tinkering for hours to adjust population, jobless , general efficiency etc there is so much too the game and then there is the trading aspect. The city helper bot in discord has all the info you need and lets you check out anyone's city. The main game map is simply an infographic, it's the number crunching that's the real game!

Yeah, I'm already in the discord channel.

Aim for Sim income rather than population.

Thanks... no technology then for you?

I bought the basic ones cheap, hence my love of windfarms at their low price and ability to generate 5 SIM each but I haven't spent loads on schools and unis just to get a 'chance' of free tech as they're very low earners.

I'm ranked about 140. Click on a city on the ranking board and you can see anyone's city to get an idea how the numbers are affected by the cards they hold.

I looked at your city, no education or creativity. Looks like a good way to go, though I suppose the thrill of winning some tech will be gone. Is the market flooded with dupes?

0

With tech, lots of dupes at T1,2 and 3. They don't stack either hence their low market price.

It's got you...no way back now. You'll say to yourself "I'll just buy this to balance that" then youll spot something else and just buy one more card to adjust that, then you'll be studying the market looking for bargains and calculating the cards with the best value returns..... Lol..anyway, you're looking good so far! Don't forget, crime only happens if you have malls, banks and casinos so don't worry about crime rate too much and most people have cities in their alt accounts so they can send cards off to maintain balance or test things out!

Don't forget, crime only happens if you have malls, banks and casinos so don't worry about crime rate too much

I have none of those things and yet there's a 7% chance of me being robbed! Are you saying all my Police Stations are for nothing and the cops are sitting there playing cards and drinking tea?

They are wasters! They are taking the piss laughing their bollocks off because they have nothing to do!
Casinos can cost 400 in crime, shopping malls 75 and banks 150 but only one of the above amounts per day and only if you have some to be robbed of course!

Does it tell you this info somewhere or am I not looking right? Also how do you know if you get an Immigrant or other person arriving?

The game info on the main screen is good but needs a little update and as for the immigrants and homeless, you don't unless you monitor city helper in discord but tbh, they are not really an issue. Type !help on city helper and there are loads of things you can do off the main game site....admit it, yer luvin it!

I love anything that pays me while I sleep, who wouldn't? 500 SIM a day... that's enough for now. Did you splash out lots of $$$ to get to where you are, or work up gradually using your SIM earnings?

admit it, yer luvin it!

It's too damn addictive for it's own good.
