Is the Future Bright in Hive's "Second Layer?"

(Edited)

On July 24th, I wrote my Money Goes Where Treated Best!? post about needing to make a decision on whether to invest further in LEO? Or BRO? Or both? Hmmm ... ๐Ÿค”

I chose both. Glad I did! ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘

Source: Based on image of creator mohamed_hassan on Pixabay

It is not even two months later, dear reader, and, as you will see in more detail below, my portfolio is "growing up" very nicely! ๐Ÿ‘

So ... Six weeks after my first post, let's take a closer look ... ๐Ÿง

LeoFinance Community

The day (timing is everything!) after what I wrote in my above referenced post on July 24th, LeoFinance published their 2020 Roadmap:

Source: LeoFinance post titled "LeoFinance 2020 Roadmap"

The scope of what is covered in their 2020 Road Map is impressive enough. Certainly in comparison to any other community with which I have been involved on our Hive blockchain. But, it is the delivery on their objectives that sets the LeoFinance community apart, in my book.

It made my subsequent decision to become a LEO "Whale" ๐Ÿ‹ a "no-brainer" for me. Going from "strength to strength" over the short time since, we have gotten the following important posts on progress:

The long-awaited and much anticipated new UI has now been released in Beta form!

Source: LeoFinance post titled "LeoFinance From the Ground Up | Our New Hive Interface Enters Open Beta"

One of my most highly anticipated outcomes is to see what becomes of this UI, between now and the end of the year. A lot has been written about the "promise" and the LeoFinance team has an enviable record of "delivery" on their promises!

There is a brand new LeoFinance Landing Page:

Source: LeoFinance post titled "New LeoFinance Landing Page | Explore the LEO Project"

Does anything on this image stand out to you? For me, it is the simple but powerful real-time display of the total market capitalization (when you have you ever seen this displayed for any other group?) of the LeoFinance "second layer" on our Hive blockchain. Think about that for just a minute. That is an incredible accomplishment.

And they are just getting started!

Great stuff. What has really set the LeoFinance community "on fire" though?

Following closely behind announcement by @fbslo of a new wHIVE token, linking HIVE to the Ethereum blockchain, wLEO was announced! Here is the latest post, with the official "go live" date:

Source: LeoFinance post titled "Wrapped LEO Hard Launch Date and New wLEO Explore Page"

The response in the marketplace, to the announcement of wLEO coming, was unlike anything I have yet experienced on the Hive blockchain. The price of LEO skyrocketed! Culminating, albeit briefly, with the incredible feat of reaching parity with HIVE the morning (here) of Sept. 13th!

While it has settled back a bit, as would be expected, the LEO price is currently multiples of that which I paid for investing into it!

๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿš€ ๐ŸŒ™

Onward and upward!

Man Cave Project

While seemingly considerably less "structured" that LeoFinance, that is simply the Man Cave Project having a very different vision of what it wants to be "when it grows up!" ๐Ÿ˜‰ ... What can I say? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚

It's "DNA" is just very different ...

After what I wrote in my above referenced post on July 24th, I decided that I was also going to continue investing into this project, even though there was really no Road Map at all! What @roleerob? That's not like you at all. Have you lost your mind?

What happened? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

Rather than recreate what I written previously, I will simply say I have not been disappointed in all that has unfolded since July 24th. As an essential part of that statement, I have spent far more time in the Man Cave server on Discord than I would have ever imagined prior to learning about their project.

As a result, I now own nearly triple the number of BRO tokens I had at that time. Thankfully, even though there is really no Road Map and there is even a fair amount of secrecy surrounding "the Plan" ... ๐Ÿ˜‰ ... we do have more information now, upon which to make better informed decisions:

For example, here is our website, currently a work-in-progress:

Source: Home page of the Man Cave Project

The heart of the project is now project to be a mobile app, currently also a work-in-progress. Here are some details, including the news of it closing in on being ready for beta release:

Source: BroFund post titled "The Big Reveal. Welcome to our App, DreamR"

Linked to the launch of this mobile app, we will apparently soon be introduced to a new token - the DreamR token. Again, secrecy surrounds the details, but we have been told they will be released "soon."

Okay ... BRO token holders have become accustomed to this approach and, at least so far, have not been disappointed on how it has all unfolded. Actually, the opposite. There is a growing amount of excitement!

One standout difference, in comparing LeoFinance and the Man Cave Project, is the sense one gets in the Man Cave of the whole team behind the project.

Source: Creator GraphicMama-team on Pixabay

As I get to know them a bit better, with regular interaction on the Man Cave's Discord server, they are clearly a very diverse group. I think of that as a strength, as Ray (@raymondspeaks) is skilled at keeping the group together and focused on the vision of what "can be."

Taking pains to be clear, I am not saying the Man Cave team is better than the LeoFinance team. The Man Cave team is just much more readily discernible to me. And I like that.

________________________

So ... While I can provide considerably less detail about the prospects for the Man Cave, I considered them to be very bright.

Again, onward and upward!

Big Picture

For one thing, there is some great synergy between the two! The BroFund account holds a considerable amount of both LEO and the LEO miners. In fact, they are far and away (as this is written anyway) the largest holder of the LEO miners.

As an example of the support, here is a post written about the Man Cave's support of LeoFinance entering the DeFi space on the Ethereum blockchain:

Source: BroFund post titled "Preparing for wLEO and Leo-Fi "

I list this intentionally to demonstrate the good intentions of the Man Cave toward this LeoFinance initiative. Subsequent to this post, as it is all "new territory" for many, it was learned via LeoFinance that holding an equivalent amount of ETH was also necessary to participate. At that point, the Man Cave reluctantly withdrew from participating directly, although it remains very bullish on LeoFinance and its LEO token investments.

And @khaleelkazi holds the position of Dragon on the Man Cave project.

As another example, here is a post on a joint project with SpinVest (SPI token) - the "BroVest Mega Raffle":

Source: BroFund post titled "Buy 10 or more BroVest tickets and get a golden ticket "

If this is appealing to you, please check it out and purchase some raffle tickets. The "big reveal" of the winners is upcoming on Sept. 19th!

The man "behind the curtain" at SpinVest, @silverstackeruk, also holds the position of Dragon on the Man Cave project.

________________________

To start wrapping up this post, dear reader, let me "step back" and take a broader, "wide angle" view of what I see and make some brief closing points:

  • Positive: Both LEO and BRO are much more than simply "specialty content" communities focused on curating and supporting the Hive posting / blogging of its members. This is particularly true of LeoFinance.

  • Positive: Already, since my fateful decision on May 25th to power "down and out" on the Steem blockchain, the resulting discretionary funds applied to the "second layer" opportunities we have on our Hive blockchain have astounded me.

    Source: @roleerob's LeoDex Wallet

I may provide some quantitative details and comparisons in a future post, but for now I will just say the total value of the "Hive equivalents" in my HIVE portfolio are growing very nicely. ๐Ÿ™‚ HIVE itself? Stagnant, at best, or (as this is being written) going down ... ๐Ÿ˜

  • Negative: Both LEO and BRO involve learning dedicated UIs ... Ohhh, booo! In their defense, a big factor is how this frees up the opportunity for bringing in ad revenue, etc., etc., etc. Yes, I get it!

I just hear too little regard given to the additional time demands this places on their communities advocates ...

Should we all just "abandon ship" on the Hive blockchain and focus on these "second layer" opportunities? With more and more of them showing up every day?

No!

They are
solely dependent
on a healthy
Hive blockchain!

Great, well, that really complicates matters, does it not?

  1. How much time do we invest in each?

  2. How many $$s do we invest in each?

Historically, my answer would have been pretty simple. Whichever seems to have the greater ROI! I don't think it can be viewed that simply anymore, although many are likely to try to do just that. Good luck!

For myself, I am new enough at arriving at these conclusions, I do not have a fully thought out answer to them yet. When I do, I may have more to say ...

________________________

Put all of the LEO and BRO details and the "big picture" together and how does the future look?

Source: Creator PublicDomainPictures on Pixabay

Bright indeed! With the "foundation" pouring of of HF24 soon to be behind us, we can all hope that the focus of the excellent team of developers on our Hive blockchain then turn their attention to finally delivering on the long-awaited promise of SHMTs. HF25 anyone? ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ˜‰

With HMT functionality built in to the "base layer" of our Hive blockchain, then it will be something to behold what flows out into these "second layer" opportunities from there.

One more time with enthusiasm. Onward and upward!

Closing

From July 24th until now, did I just get "lucky?" ๐Ÿค‘ This outcome, so far, is certainly a welcome change from my more typical and historical "buy high" and "sell low" track record! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Should I sell quick? Before my "luck" changes? ๐Ÿ˜จ

No ... I will almost certainly just stick with my long-term HODLer / investor mindset. For whatever it is worth, @khaleelkazi (LEO) and @raymondspeaks (BRO) can be assured my tokens are in "strong" hands ...

The far more likely question is whether to buy more? And, if so, how much and when? We'll see ...

Iโ€™d love to hear any feedback you may be inspired to provide.

Until "next time," all the best to you for a better tomorrow, as we all work together to build up our Hive Communities and add increasing value to our Hive blockchain! ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ˜Š

Respectfully,

the second layer is a centralized excel sheet in this case. Can not be the future in my opinon

Thank you for stopping by @ash. Others may not appreciate differing opinions on their posts. I welcome them.

"the second layer is a centralized excel sheet in this case."

Hmmm. "... in this case." Meaning what exactly?

If anyone were to read back through my brief history with these second layer communities, they would find how big an impression was made on me by this post about what they represent, from a coder's perspective.

I would appreciate hearing more from you on what there is in those details with which you apparently disagree. A quick glance at your HE wallet indicates you have invested in them nonetheless, including the two mentioned in this post. Purely speculative?

Have a great day!

me investing doesn't mean I can't criticize, does it?
Hive-engine is 100% centralized, so is wrapped LEO on top of it. the whole scheme has a lot of potential single-point of failures built in.

? "... doesn't mean I can't criticize, does it?" Not sure what you read in my response @ash to elicit this one. Given I clearly state I welcome differing opinions ...

wLEO is in a separate category from the second layer of the Hive blockchain IMO. I have written elsewhere on my own reservations about that venture ...

As for Hive Engine being "100% centralized," it seems to me to be no more so than the Hive blockchain, in general. Given the frustration with failure (so far) to deliver on the "promise" of SHMTs, it was created though, as an alternative. It certainly can be appreciated for what it has revealed about the potential of "specialty enterprises" linked to our Hive blockchain. I've written about 2 of them here ...

Great read @roleerob,

I also started to buy some LEO Miners yesterday and will continue sticking to the long-term HODLer mentality. Time to keep up with everything is the major bottleneck for me at the moment.

Glad to "hear" you found it of some value to you @costanza. You and I are like-minded in our approach, so I always value receiving your perspective.

"Time to keep up with everything is the major bottleneck for me at the moment."

Yep, the "bane of my existence" having anything to do with these "virtual worlds." Always has been. Likely will always be. And ... It just got worse, if you read the "fine print" in the "Big Picture" section of this post. A work-in-progress for me to decide how it will all settle out ...

"I also started to buy some LEO Miners yesterday ..."

What you or others may see in my HE wallet is misleading, as it does not show the 450 LEOM currently being powered down. Why have I done this? From associations inside the Man Cave, I have learned the % of LEO "rewarded" is not as uhhh ... "equitable" as we might wish. Bottom line: The larger stakes of those have an ROI advantage. For "grins & giggles" and the potential for future appreciation in value, I have held on to 50. I will obtain the benefits of larger stakes of LEOM through my BRO and DHEDGE token holdings ...

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day "over there!"

I had a great read now in your post.

I also think that in the long term we will have a very promising future with LEO and BRO. If it depends on me I will be more of a hodl. Success on your journey.

Sounds @coyotelation ...

"If it depends on me I will be more of a hodl."

... like we view our options in the same way. While I have traded a little bit, I am much more "hard wired" to be a long-term investor and HODLer.

Thanks for stopping by! ๐Ÿ‘
