In Which I Become A Miner

avatar

And today I formally decided that I'm going to hit the mines and start working making some $$$. If you checked out my previous post, I wanted to get myself a drone and mining is quite profitable right now so I have decided to become one.

But instead of grabbing a pickaxe, a hardhat and some overalls, I grabbed my glasses that filter out blue light, my golden ace of spades card, and most importantly: my GPU. And I had my GPU hit the mines.

This beautiful(yes she is a beauty, notice the Hive and NFTMart™ stickers reflection, the blue light glasses and the lamp on top of it) is hitting the mines and is going to be working hard for the next monthish so I can make some profit.

The GPU that I'm mining with is the AMD Radeon 5500XT(no I didn't buy it specifically for mining, luckily I bought it right before the big GPU craze) and it can pull off about 25 MH/s when mining for ETH on nicehash. Daily that comes to about $3, paid out as BTC.

The card consumes about 90 Watts of electricity, and with some math I calculated that I'd pay about $10/month in electricity. That comes out to a profit of about $80/month. Which means that in about 3 months the GPU pays for itself. Yup, 3 months of mining is all that it'd take to be profitable in the eyes of the GPU. I probably wont' be mining for that much. Maybe a month or two until I get bored of having my computer on at all times, but for now, it's a little bit more $ on the side and when Rishi wants a drone, Rishi will put in the work for it.

I am using an RTX 2070 with 8GB of ram and average around $4 a day. Per my laptop, it is consuming about 115w. It is a nice use for my laptop when I am at work. Great article, happy mining!

Beats my daily income by over double and yet only for about 20% more usage. Really nice.

I am going to get this to see how much power I am really using! I will update you when I get the power numbers...I hope I am making money vs. paying the power company. power.jpg

Considering I'm making money, I'd assume you would be too, unless your power price is insanely high.

Making about $3-3.5 after I take out energy cost. I underclocked my CPU and GPU but upped my GPU memory frequency to get down to 170w for my Alienware laptop. Before I did that I was using 200w

Your electricity cost is quite a bit lower than me. Not bad profit at all, especially doing nothing.
