Yeah, those massive upvotes are nice to wake up to. But the slowly built up relationships and network are what count on the long run, because you can always count on friends and/or a possible fanbase. :)
I personally never had this many digital 'friends' whom I actually interact with. Certainly not on Facebook. The future is definitely a nice one to be had.

You're absolutely right on that last part. I met a lot of people in here, even joined a Portuguese Hive community and we talk on a daily basis.
