Living the Life in dCity
Being one of the top and most well thought out and versatile blockchain games on the Hive chain, right up there with Splinterlands, I decided to join the hype train and create a dCity over the past week. And this is what it currently looks like.
At first, I bought a card for 4 Hive to start, not knowing at the time that buying 800 SIM on the Hive Engine Market is slightly cheaper. The first card I got was a luxury home. After that there was an Airport, which is apparently not that common, and then 2 police stations. I figured out I had to get employees for all these new buildings to get the income attached to them.
So I did some research and clicking around and realized that the basic homes were selling for around 1 Hive on the dCity market. Armed with the winnings from the #JoinHive contest, I went to town and bought a few basic homes. Income was around 25 SIM back then I think.
Over the week a few immigrants appeared, so I learned about those as well.
And lastly I pulled a Garbage Dump, which brought down my popularity back to zero. I'm not going to reach 25 different cards anytime soon, so I will probably sell that as soon as removing it doesn't cause massive unemployment resulting in lowered income. With the recently decreased taxes my income is now at 38 SIM.
My goal will be, as most, to slowly build up and get into the top 400 WITH a decent SIM income. I know some only focus on increasing population, because that's how the top is measured, unfortunately, but I've decided to take the steady approach, because I don't have that much starting capital and I'm planning on reinvesting my SIM income.

My advice: look more at the SIM income, not so much at the ranking. The payout in Hive is just a fraction compared to what you get in SIM!
Yes, good point, and also part of my reasoning for building a solid city first.
Forgot to put that in the post.
Thanks for the advice. :)
I must really try this game! Last time I checked there wasn't a way to try-before-buy though, and I'm not willing to put money into a game I have no way of trying.

Try converting some of the Hive Engine tokens or some Hive/HBD you earn through comments. It will go slow at first, but once you have some income, the pace will increase.
There are player tutorials on the game site as well. Those are kind of like "trying out".
Congratulations @rarej! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain and have been rewarded with new badge(s) :
You can view your badges on your board and compare yourself to others in the Ranking
