How has Crypto and Blockchain Technology Impacted My Personal Finance?

My Story

I almost joined Steem in late 2016. Who knows, if that had happened this might be an entirely different story than the one I am about to share. :) It took me another year and a half but I finally joined up in March of 2018. As of now, I'm not sure that decision has had much of an impact on my personal finance but it has helped open my eyes even wider to problems I was seeing with how I was living my life and society in general.

A Little Background

Six years ago I quit my job, sold my house, and moved away from an area I had lived in for 42 years. I had worked 30 years in corporate America as an employee and a contractor, mostly in aerospace doing engineering/quality type endeavors, but had become disillusioned with organizations that didn't treat their human capital with any respect. With the proceeds from my house sale and a partial monthly pension payment I took off for the next great adventure. :)

Life After Wage Slavery

I down sized my lifestyle, did odd jobs, worked at a feed store for a while until Covid hit, and of course... blogged for crypto. Any illusions I had about making a living blogging were quickly upended. I realized it was going to be a long haul and that I had a lot to learn. I was having fun though, posting my photography and exploring more of my creative side.

My First Fiat Investment

Around June 2019 I bought some new SPI tokens with my vast accumulation of Steem I had acquired through blogging. ;) I was also able to send some fiat for SPI tokens. As my SPI investment grew and I started learning how to use the exchanges my interest in cryptocurrency grew.

Where I'm at Now

I work at being a more well rounded blogger and not focus so much on one subject. I buy some BTC weekly (late to the party I know), stay on the lookout for new crypto investments and try to keep knowledgeable on what is happening in the fast moving crypto world.

So as of this writing I don't think crypto and blockchain technology has impacted my personal finances very much. I do have high hopes for that in the future though. Plus I have some more retirement benefits kicking in soon that will allow me to up my crypto holdings some.

I do think it has had a bigger impact on my personal well being. I read posts on the chain that give me ideas on how I might better myself and others. I still struggle with a lack of knowledge and how I might manifest those ideas. It is exciting though to think there might be a vehicle that will lift us all together into a better world. :)

Great post. I'm looking forward to the day I can leave my 9-5. I make to much right now (not a bad thing) to do it. But I like the idea of making money off blogging in the future. Keep blogging my friend!

Making a life change is all about timing. I may have made mine a little early but my mental state and world view wouldn't allow me to keep going the road I was on. Everyone's path is a little different. :)

Interesting story and thanks for sharing it.

Well, you have SPI, so that means it has a slight impact, as it is a passive income via crypto. Scale does matter in the end, but it is still money pouring in.

With your history with SPI, the next best thing would be the LBI, so this will another income stream coming from crypto in a passive way. There are some articles allover the internet that one needs 7 different income streams to become a millionaire, so I think you should be on a goo track here.

LBI is definitely my next step. Already started powering down half my Leo and some of my Hive. Hoping to up my investment in LBI by about 5x the SPI when it goes live. That will be around a 1000 LBI, so a pretty good step up from the SPI investment.

I do try to keep several "irons in the fire" but have come to the conclusion that I may remain a "temporarily embarrassed millionaire" for the rest of my life. :)

Would this be a problem for you? If not, than no worries!

Same on this side of the Atlantic ;)

No problem at all. In 60 odd years on this planet these last few have been some of my happiest and most relaxed since childhood. :)

Your field of work was and is not easy. I'm in automotive with sometimes some requests from the aerospace and defense field. Not easy, budget is always tough, demands are high and people usually drive crazy with no reason. Hope to be able to retire early from this madness :)

Let's have a !BEER together. :)

Very true. As a minimum I think most people want to feel happy and secure that they can meet their basic needs. How you get there and how much beyond the basics you want to go is up to each individual.

What I like best about this initiave? Having a chance to get to know some of the life stories behind the Leos we interact with on a regular basis.

I worked in the aerospace industry too, though indirectly. We moved tons of machinery for the aerospace industry in San Diego over the past 25 years.

So many of these stories are relatable in regards to crypto as well. It has changed my life but not so much my financial situation.

That does seem to be a main theme from some of the posts I have read. Life changing but not so much a huge financial change at this point.
