RE: Blockchain: Storing Society's Most Valuable Data

Utility is what separates the good blockchains and their cryptocurrencies from the bad ones.

A good blockchain with multiple utilities or use cases becomes a great blockchain. Market cap only takes a cryptocurrency so far.

Your example of @podping on Hive is perfect since most people aren't used to thinking of media such as audio or video as something to store on a blockchain.

There are also situations which seem like a natural fit for blockchains. Elections come to mind, although there are sticking points that are unrelated to the blockchain itself. Vital records and statistics are another area where blockchain makes sense-- deeds, titles, licenses, permits, certificates, etc.

Since life can't be all work and no play, some lousy blockchains may be able to take advantage of use cases that are recreation-oriented. Fantasy sports is being tried, and gaming tournaments seem to be good use cases for the blockchains needing a makeover or rehabilitation.

(E-mail could be handled by blockchain; I can't wrap my mind around that, myself, because of privacy concerns, even if cryptography solved addressed that concern. Maybe I'm being paranoid about this.)
