CryptoFinance Initiative: How has Crypto and Blockchain Technology Impacted your Personal Finance?

avatar

An excellent question this week passed by coming from @theycallmedan on what I guess what every newbie wants to know:

How has crypto blockchain technology changed your finance?

Let us start at the beginning to see from what position I came from

Back in 2017 i was still living in the Caribbean blogging on a Dutch platform for and making some Euros on the side from this. Around this time the island where I was living on was struck by a hurricane and that really changed all finances. banks were not working, cash was also kind of pointless as all stores were blown away. So charity and blackmarket was the way how it went.

I wrote about this and another Dutch blogger told me to write on this international platform called Steemit using the trending hashtag #hurricane from that moment. So initially I started blogging for that. I had heard about crypto and bitcoin before but nothing all too flashy.

I learned a lot in these months after I spent a lot of nights taking on call shifts at the hospital mostly waiting...and writing...and waiting...and reading.. It was a weird time but there was not much to do. I started writing more because I could see that this was paying off in the form of payouts in crypto form

The bull run was on fire at this moment.

I bought some stuff here and there in small amounts when I had connection to the interwebz which was dreadfull because it was my first times ond everything and I had no idea how long transactions should take. And second of all the internet connection was still very unstable so often it would bounce half way. Not cool if you are a beginner.

But still banks were not functioning at all still and it felt good making some cash also with the blogging. I made some profits and diversified them in other crap. Boom...the mistake of mistakes.

When the greed comes rolling in also comes the courage.

I diversified a bit more and all of these shitcoins went right back to zero after 2018. At first you think it will be fine, but after a year you know it will not. This was my first bull cycle and I fell in the trading rookie mistakes.

But because it was all not a lot of money that was actually gone I felt comfortable in hodling and seeing what will come from it.

I kept the grind up with blogging in steem and by now hive, and also had some whaleshares adventure which gave me a nice stack of bitshares which gave me beos as well. Will this be worth it? Also...we don't really know.

That is the thing with crypto and smaller coins. You don't know which will be the ones that will take off

So now I have some bags of smaller alts, midcap alts and not enough btc as I would like. It is just too expensive. But with every trade I made sure that the sats always felt on the btc stacking side. All sats count in the end

Goal?

For me crypto will not be the way to financial freedom, I just dont have enough of it for that. I still have a normal daytime job in a hospital were I do good work. It is forfilling.

I have also noticed that when I was trying to trade more active that this costed me a lot of sleep and loads of near heart attacks. I don't want to live like that as a zombie, because that is how I act then. Surely I can make more money, but the time while doing that will make me 10 years older in a month. Not worth it.

For me the goal is to pick up some funds along the way that make life a bit more easy and maybe get me to retire a bit earlier if I am lucky. So the talk about lambo's? Yeah that is just lovely talk, and I enjoy doing it. Surely I get damn excited when stuff is on fire!

But will it change my life? Unless some shady coins I own turn into BTC prices...this isn't likely to happen. Keep on stacking though!

That's the thing about smaller coins as you have said, we just don't know which of them that would rise.

For me, my goal here is to keep buidling, making connections, engaging with everyone. That way I believe it would help me in general both in my rewards and enjoy social media (I see hive as one). I am looking into hive in the next 5 years and what more we would have achieved by then.

well, exactly.. I also see it as a social thing. I went to steemfest in Krakow and in Bangkok and it is really cool to see likeminded people on these kinds of things. If you can ever get to meetups, surely do..because this will only increase the feeling of community in there.

and for the coins...yeah that will be wait and see (dont look today though)

Interesting journey you've had with crypto, buying loads of those shit coins can be costly. I also learnt the hard way too so I'm very careful with which coins I jump in on.

Otherwise let's keep enjoying the crypto journey with the hope of better pay off someday.

Cheers.

luckily from the majority of the coins that went into shitcoins a lot of them were blogged so not actually from fiat..that hurts less because it was only the time and effort that was lost not the actually cash...

and who knows man, who knows! Keep it up!

I learned a lot in these months after I spent a lot of nights taking on call shifts at the hospital mostly waiting...and writing...and waiting...

In the same way during the lockdown, people were lockdown in their places, some people take it as opportunity to explore the new things (blockchain also)...
I wish you luck for your future plans...

exactly! I can imagine that during these lockdown also a lot of people had enough to think through their wallets and think what to do with it...a good thing to think about the possible options.

You never know. Right now if I had any more to invest, I'd buy Hive over bitcoin. I think bitcoin will probably 10x again but i doubt it'll be as fast or easy as anyone thinks. I'm trying to see 40k as the high for this cycle, so if it beats that, it'll just be a bonus for me. Hive on the other hand I think will, at worst, double, at best 10x in the next year. If it 10x's before bitcoin, you could easily buy a whole lot more bitcoin during a dip. That's how I've done it until now :-) That drop from 12k to 5k last year changed my life!

hahaha yeah the dip also gave me some good oppertunities indeed..!

well yeah some of the smaller coins could do more than 10 time...or they can go to zero. who knows..

for stability and reliablity btc remains kings, and you can never have enough of it..wise moves!

Nice to see your crypto story and how it is developed.

For me crypto will not be the way to financial freedom, I just dont have enough of it for that. I still have a normal daytime job in a hospital were I do good work. It is forfilling.

Never say never as we don't know what will happen in 3-4 years time. Some Antivirus guy predicted BTC at 1 Mil, else he will eat his manhood. It didn't happen, but it might happen in this decade.

Imagine to work only out of passion, that would be the best.

For me the goal is to pick up some funds along the way that make life a bit more easy and maybe get me to retire a bit earlier if I am lucky. So the talk about lambo's? Yeah that is just lovely talk, and I enjoy doing it. Surely I get damn excited when stuff is on fire!

I did not see you as a lambo-girl, more rather a G-Wagon or a Rolls. Retire early or earlier is also my target. :)

eat his manhood :DDDDD bring out the popcorn :DDD

haha no kidding, I tdo thinkbtc is going to do a nice run this cycle indeed, at least I am hoping for it..

A rolls? nehhhh man, Im not 80 years old heheheh. retirement is the best one I would say

I think a rolls can be a very slick beautiful car:

80 years old can't manage the power under the hood. It might look a little gangsterish, but it is much more comfortable to drive compared to a lambo. It is also fast, reaching the 100 in 4.5 sec.

but for a girl to drive in?? Nehhhhhh, that is over the top

this one looks a lot different though than the dusty ones I consider with 80 year olds haha

Ok, my bad... I did not ask you what would you like to drive...So what fancy car would you drive if crypto moons? (not to mistake with mooning)

Ok, an electric G-Wagon then :)
I would choose an hydrogen one, as they are not damaging the environment as much as the electric cars. :)

All the best to the Netherlands(it is a pain that we can't use Holland anymore)

hahahahahhah Du kannst das nur gegen Leute sagen die da okay mit sind!

Holland are the two provinces where the big cities are. Im from the Eindhoven region and we are not too fond of the Holland region.;)Its like Zurich and Luzern how they stand towards each other.

Regardless...you can say Holland. Now lets get that G-wagon!!

Nice to read your story.. what a situation you have been in living in the Caribean! Must be so weird when the banks just stop working and you have to live from charity or blackmarkets.. can't even imagine how that felt!

Thankfully you overcame that!

thanks for the kind words! Indeed, those couple f months were really weird and very anarchylike I would say... because of that I also do not believe anarchy works in the end, that is just not sustainable at allll

no banks working an no electricity indeed is weird!

Great story. 2017 was insane. 2018 was a nightmare. Nobody expected those types of retracements. Crypto is a crazy business. I try to keep it fun and not take it to seriously. I think if this bull run continues we may see some of those old bags moon too! HODL on!

Holding on to all of them! they might just end up back on where they were.

I dont panic sell so fast even though i sometimes better should have honestly.
And indeed, when it is more hobby, the stakes are just different and less stressfull

welcome to the club :p i feel you!

I have also noticed that when I was trying to trade more active that this costed me a lot of sleep and loads of near heart attacks.

once again i feel you! trading isn't for everyone i concluded :P

For me the goal is to pick up some funds along the way that make life a bit more easy and maybe get me to retire a bit earlier if I am lucky

You don't have to necessarily think of cryptos as something that will change your life completely, at least that's what i believe. Even if you buy a coffee or groceries, a laptop, help with some bill it worths for me!

ahhh yes another one with getting a high blood pressure from trading! It aint good for you man hahahah.

a small little pieces help in the end indeed, but somewhere I still hope that one big bang will stay in there
