College: How To Be Gainfully Unemployment

College tuition fees have risen and honestly I don't know how the government expects us to pay it. I go to one of the cheapest college in Nigeria but you see it's not the college fees that's expensive, there's been a like 35% increase in the cost of living, from transportation to feeding to housing, electricity and stationery materials. The protesting in Nigeria has further added a 5% to that 35% to make it exactly 40% I wouldn't be able to predict about other states but you see, Lagos state, Abuja and Port Harcourt are the most expensive places to live in, school in or work in but then because of the extension of job opportunity in Lagos, people would rather live, school and work in an expensive place because of the opportunity to make that money in the first place.

In Nigeria, whatever a college or tertiary institution is located, the prices of goods and services automatically skyrockets in that geographical location this is because there is demand, excessive demand in that area and services bringers sees the opportunity to become rich. You see one of the misassumption of people who sees people going to college is that they're loaded enough to afford any sort of hike in price being thrown at them and the second misassumption is that everyone going to college has a parent or a sponsor who's ready to pay all their fees.

In Nigeria colleges it's all about education and not diversifying at all

While this can be majorly true, it's not always true. You see having a sponsor in college doesn't allow one understand the essence of obtaining utility for every money they spend. Most college full-time students do not have a job and secondly there's no opportunity to work in most Nigerian colleges and even in Lagos state per say, there are no institutions that likes employing undergraduates simply because in Nigeria it's all about the certificate and not the skills you have to deliver on a job. So whilst students should be afforded the opportunity to work in Nigerian colleges, they're not, prices in goods and services are hiked up and everything around them increase per semester.

How about that for being gainfully unemployed? Now Futher looking into this; it's either you have a sponsor or you have a side hustle that can allow you pay your fees. Some skills that are really marketable in college include hairdressing, cloth making, retail service providers including barbing but then time is always of the essence. So because it's always thought that a full-time student always has a sponsor, they're not allowed to work or provide opportunities for them to work and secondly a student's life should be cheap to an extent but it isn't and that's where the exploitativeness usually comes from. So most college students are already used to having a sponsor and hence when they graduate they find it difficult to have entrepreneurial tendencies.

Textbook equivalently increased in cost

How about that? Education in Nigeria is too expensive for the meagre opportunities it offers. So for me being gainfully unemployed is a term I use to allude to a Nigerian student. It's being in that situation whereby you spend money on a daily to pay college bills and receive a particular kind of money either from a sponsor or parent, being in charge of personally managing these money till another one comes in but not of course being directly involved with making these money that is being spent. This isn't always true but often true I believe since college students are the most exploited it would be rather fair for them to see or get opportunities to take care of their need. Being in school shouldn't be about just getting a degree and that's where Nigerian colleges have failed at.

Exactly, you just summarised everything in a comment. People leave college totally broke when there's no job to even make up for all the time. Thanks for the support, I'm appreciative

And it's ironical that you spend all that money only for you to remain broke, exhausted and extorted.
