Becoming Poorer While Swimming In A Pool Of Opportunities. (From A Nigerian Perspective/

In Nigeria, how good your job looks on paper doesn't determine what you actually make in terms of money and this somehow seem paradoxical. Money in itself is paradoxical. The level at which you chase money or do maybe three jobs in a day doesn't guarantee you the means to take care of your desires, cravings and wants. in reality money requires you to have the right scoop or the right methodology and not the right force or wrong push. Many people set to make money with their jobs and some others set out to have fun will doing their job. Believe me the returns is always different. irrespective of how poor most African countries are, we still have some people who are tapping into these poverty to become wealthy overnight.

Why is this? Potentials makes you money. There will always be need and the ability to satisfy these needs will always be rewarded. Many people are chasing after oil or working in shell companies or having a BSC in chemical engineering or petroleum engineering. But then no one wants to sell soft drink on the streets, it seems like a dirty job for a graduate or someone who aspires to make money in bundles. I have a cousin who sells street food. he has tried to be gainfully employed in many corporate organisations and he was told he does not have the required skill to be a marketer of any sort. But then he was marketing the wrong product and if you do not market the right product then your marketing skills might not even be expressed.

The cousin I spoke about decided to start up street food vends around selected areas in Lagos Nigeria, he started marketing his food to individuals who had connections to these corporate entities that once rejected him and he began building relationships with them sometimes he even allowed them test market without paying and nowadays he's a very popular street food seller who has made his millions and cut his teeth in outright marketing. Sometimes it is the scope and the methodology, a lot of people are in the wrong jobs, they feel too lazy to create their own opportunities rather they prefer to help people who have become established to build their dreams provided they will pay them on a monthly basis.

We have people who are graduating as barristers and lawyers and celebrating being called to bar. but then how lucrative is it to rather be an accountant or a lawyer? Apart from having the wrong people to scratch surfaces and doors? What about those who are starting without nothing and know nobody how many years of servitude will they be engaged for? in a lawless country such as Nigeria that does not value the constitution? Wouldn't they need to be corrupt in order to put food on their table. education in Nigeria is just a male money-making venture for the federal Government. Apart from the fact that it makes you knowledgeable to theories it doesn't show you how to unlock your potential which is mostly what a lot of people do by themselves without the help of being educated in Nigeria.

Believe me some people who sells second-handed clothes or even street food are richer than some doctor in Nigeria and why is this? Many people are going after the jobs that looks good on them and not jobs that would significantly raise their finance and this is always the problem. one of the reason why food is costly in Nigeria is because we do not have enough farmers. This is to say that we have more consumers than producers and this will intermittently sometimes creates scarcity, a hike in price and massive exploitations. There is a need for potential farmers to enter the market and how many people are exploiting these opportunities? None. Nigeria is very well day and boosts of the resources to make The more than 250 million citizens quite wealthy too but then this will require a massive scourge for opportunities. life is hard but only hard for those who wish for it to remain hard.

Why is this? Potentials makes you money. There will always be need and the ability to satisfy these needs will always be rewarded.

This is the type of mindset every Nigerian needs to have to get what he/She wants but nowadays it's more like the opposite. No one wants to do the critical thinking to satisfy the needs of people. We all want to rely on our certificate to do the work and get us a job and keep earning and spending until you realize you're trapped in the rat race.

Apart from the fact that it makes you knowledgeable to theories it doesn't show you how to unlock your potential which is mostly what a lot of people do by themselves without the help of being educated in Nigeria.

I see things are starting to get better with time as people are now becoming more aware of the type of educational system that the country offers. Self education is the key to being able to know what will work for you and lead you to financial success.

you have actually mentioned it; critical thinking is what most people lacks and this is because of laziness and the inability to want to explore potentials because it seems stressful and rigorous and quite different from the system they are exposed to. The truth is that so many sectors of the nation hasn't been explored and people keep following in one particular direction and that is why you have too much competitiveness.
irrespective of how we value college degrees in the country it has come to that situation where college degrees only get you knowledge and nothing more it is not like in the 80s where education guarantees you the best jobs nowadays you are ability to be creative with how to make money is what guarantees you financial freedom.

Good thing we have people like you who understand the system and love to explore. I'm not much of a creative person but seeing someone like you and about the story of your cousin. I'll love to start something different and creative to make sure I don't rely on any government before I can put food on my table.

Well I can't really say I understand the system I just take a look at the basics and try to do better for myself. In Nigeria it is become increasingly obvious that the government does not have plans for anyone and the earlier people realise this earlier they begin to look for solutions to empower themselves

When you start a business you forgo instant income for higher future income! Many informal traders Accross africa even become formal businesses with time, without the need for venture capital and just good old fashioned hard work!

African entrepreneurs are the most gangsta nothing can phase them once they’ve started and we can all learn from them

Taking the salaried way out is the easy way out and yes you can earn lots of money but you’ll always have to depend on the job to keep you going, a business owner can change with the times and keep growing a salaried worker needs to hope for promotions and put his or her fate in the hands of others

This can somehow be different from Nigeria, in Nigeria only a little amount of entrepreneurs have gone on to survive without capitals and good old-fashioned doggedness, nowadays entrepreneurship is considered something you can only venture into if you have a huge backing or backup. People are more afraid of risk or going into debt and because of this there is no new epicenter to create wealth to the masses or for the masses.
I do not know about so many other African countries but we have more people dependent on the system rather than being creative and venturing into sole proprietorship

This farming stuff is a great idea and what you just said above is the true nature of our state. I wonder how this xmas would be with prices of poultry stuff and farm products.

I have for long consider venturing into it. I think it's high time to take it serious.

Farming is a great idea when systematically done very well. some people totally fail at it because they do not have a structural framework or plan to execute it well, but then there is always the need for food and meat in Nigeria and it will never be enough

You are. Structural framework is very necessary. More so, learning and getting a mentor who have vast knowledge in it train you will really help.
