Less is better

Usually to purchase any H-E product I go through centralised exchanges like Binance. During the proces I get to loose, let's say 5-10% max depending on rates, number of currencies I need to involve in the process etc.

Few days ago, decided to put my ETH on metamask wallet to work and thought, 'Hey, there's wLeo and I can use DeFi pool to get my tokens of interest. DeFi is to be soooo good and whatnot'.
Did swap my ETH (~200$) for wLeo. That went smoothly. There was gas fee involved, but since it was lesser than 1% I wouldn't mind. I headed to wLeo.io to unwrap my Leos. I almost fell of my chair when saw that it required me to pay the gas fee of over 160%.
That is crazy and totally undermining the whole token.
There has to be some other way to get around this.
At first I thought, 'Fuck I got the wrong wLeos'. I double checked and they seem to be THE PROPER ONES.

Please tell me I'm doing something wrong and this can be done with a gas fee of 1-2$...
