Stop Being Short-Sighted & Add Value Right Now!

The Path To Success

I have been here since the beginning of the blockchain and I have seen a lot of things. In fact, I have witnessed literally everything that has happened around here since mid 2016 and I have been very vocal about certain things more than once. I have also been short-sighted and I have spent a lot of time during my time here thinking about the best possible things I can do to maximize the rewards or my ROI.

This often happened during times I noticed that many others did nothing of value and where still able to cash out large amounts of tokens. I've experienced literally all the emotions that goes around this place. The only thing I haven't experience personally so far, is the feeling of being someone with large stake and to have real impact that can affect dozens of people in various ways in a second.

I have been a leader, a support pillar and I have been working hard to encourage, inspire and motivate others to participate, to produce high quality content and to be consistent regardless of the rewards they've been making. I have helped people over the minnow-threshold, I have given away tokens left and right to dozens of people and I have donated tokens to charity and for greater good more than once.

I know how it feels to be encouraged, and I know how important it is to encourage others around us because I have been on both sides of the fence. This is nothing new though, there are a bunch of people out there doing various things that are good for the community and many of them have done far better things than me. Some of them have done worse with more resources as well, but that's not the point..

The point is that people want to see green numbers. We've heard that since day 1. We want Hive to moon and we want to become crypto millionaires. We want Hive to reach the masses.

There has always been a lot of talk about the things we want, but there has been very little focus on doing things that actually helps us closer to these targets and goals we want to reach.

We obviously have a bunch of people who puts in a ton of hours doing what they believe is the best for the platform, and some of them are exceptional at the things they are doing..

  • But overall, we lack commitment from people.

Most people are talkers and takers while the minority of the people are doers. We need more doers. We need people who are truly looking for long term gains rather than being short-sighted.

Like @taskmaster4450 said:

Comments, as an example, are the epitome of the long game. Are you commenting for the immediate payoff today or for the progress of the entire platform.

While I have already talked about engagement and how that can take us to $10, it's crucial to understand how powerful engagement actually is, and why engagement is what it takes to push us to new heights.

Engagement stands for an active, healthy and thriving place, which is exactly what content creators wants. It goes for both current creators and the potential creators who are looking at this blockchain as a place to be. We need comments all over this place to be attractive to the outside world, and that's why many of us are doing what we can to make comments. We are doers and we are here for the long term gains.

We want this place to succeed, but we are willing to put in time, hard work and effort to actually do something about it. We believe in the power engagement has, and we believe in the outcome that a healthy and active community will have in the future.

I don't mind cashing out at $2 and get a nice ROI, but why dump everything at $2 when I know that we could rather easily, if we combined our efforts, see prices closer to $10..?

It's just a matter of changing your perspective a bit. If you don't believe in the project, just dump and go. It's not a recommendation, but it's probably for the best as short-sighted people are often:

  • Holding grudges.
  • Burning bridges.
  • Voice their opinions that don’t need to be voiced.
  • Talk down to others they believe are less than them.
  • Get big, then ignore the ones who helped them.
  • Dwell on failure.
  • Don’t communicate.

The truth is that we don't need any of that. It's a completely different thing to raise your concerns or to discuss how one bad thing could've been better, as long as the intent is to provide a better option or a solution for how to fix a problem. None of us can- or will do everything right immediately.

This is a journey for everyone, but short-sighted people are usually giving up after doing some of- or all of the things in the list above. We don't want you to quit, we just want you to change your perspective a bit.

I usually work for about 50-60 hours per week and I could still put my name in the leaderboards for most comments this week. It's far away from the crazy amount of numbers some others are putting up, but it's still more than a bunch of others.

I truly believe that engagement is the first stepping stone towards growth. Optimized content, organic traffic, evergreen content and marketing are important as well, in various ways. But I think that the most vital ingredient for us is engagement. That is what keeps the people here and that is what will attract and convince the outsiders to join.

  • That's how we will reach the masses!

Let's combine our efforts and put in some numbers. Let's re-activate #initiative10 and boost the overall engagement again. We will benefit by it in the long haul, as long as we are consistent.

Consistency is key, everyone has said it a billion times..

  • Prove that you mean it.

We want Hive to moon and we want to become crypto millionaires.

No, I do not want to become a crypto millionaire, but I do not want to remain poor either.

Nowadays my pension-like income is approximately $256 USD per month. I would be happy to earn even a few hundred dollars per month with crypto.

I truly believe that engagement is the first stepping stone towards growth.

The problem is the fact that most people do not believe in this. Actually most people focus only on their own posts. Many people are posting, but only a few commenting.

Many people are posting, but only a few commenting.

That is true and the point that @hitmeasap is making. Why cant most on here leave 10 solid comments a day?

If he is working 50-60 hours yet still can leave about 25 per day, that shows that few have excuses, at least from a time perspective.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but lack of time should literally be the only reason for people to not engage, if they truly believe in the project. I mean, it doesn't take much time to make a few comments here and there and everything adds up & help.

He's a role model by doing this. Hopefully others will follow his example. I wouldn't try and copy anyone's behavior though and engagement should come natural. On a long time frame it really pays to be active on Leofinance. It's the best Hive community so far.

Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it. I totally agree with you, you should never try to copy another persons approach or behaviour. That is not likely to work out well for you in the long haul, even though it might work out great for starters.

Each person has to find their own way, and figure out what's working for them.

..engagement should come natural.

100% with you on that, might even be more important than forcefully pumping out comments for numbers. When I just started (which is not so long ago) seen many posts and comments that indeed feel like "I'm here to earn a quick buck upvote me" which isn't inviting to engage or even stay.

It takes some snooping around and reading some articles to start following quality and see some meaningful engagement. So shouldn't we focus on boosting the quantity of quality comments instead of just a raw number of comments? Imo that would boost organic growth since it's more inviting to write another reply and join the conversation.

Well, I don't really want to become a crypto-millionaire either. That has never been my goal, but I wouldn't be sad if it happened at some point. The point is that each user here wants something. We all have different goals and dreams, but everyone wants Hive to succeed so we can fulfill those dreams, regardless of what they are.

Actually most people focus only on their own posts.

I did that as well, for a very long time and I still focus more on my own posts than others, but that's because I treat my audience with respect and I want to thank them for engaging with my content.

I personally think that is what you should do, as you are building your own brand as well as encouraging others to engage simultaneously.

Just a few tips to you guys who think engaging is a lot of work.

  1. It takes roughly 2hours each to make at least 20 comments. If you read actively and engage for 2 hours each day you can find your name on the engagement leaderships board.

  2. It doesn't have to be your active hours. An hour when you wake up in the morning and an hour before you sleep.

  3. Engagement is fun when you find your tribesmen. It becomes more intuitive as time goes on.

Why engagement:

  1. You build social capital

  2. You earn

  3. You come across interesting ideas that can be a source of inspiration for a post.

Being consistent for 2-3 months would almost guarantee that you earn something decent here.

Why don't people earn?

They are lazy. Simple. To some, they can get away with it by buying heavily. But the average Joe cannot move up the ladder if they plan to be lazy and rape the reward pool.

If this platform has benefited you in any way then you owe it your commitment. And it makes logical sense to want to engage in activities that will lead to the continuity of this space. It is in your interest as much as that of the community to engage.

Hard to negate anything you said here.

Commenting is a lot more than just a numbers game. The reason is that it shows commitment and active interest in others having success. What if, Hive, instead of 5,000 or 6,000 comments a day, there was 40,000? How would this place look like?

What about if Leofinance had 3,000 or 4,000 each day on its own? What would that do about the interest in the Leofiance.io platform? We know most people get nothing on social media.

Let us all try to promote this idea and push the numbers up. Behind each post we comment upon, there is a person. Engaging with that person is vital.

What if, Hive, instead of 5,000 or 6,000 comments a day, there was 40,000? How would this place look like?

Exactly. The reason for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and all those other platforms to succeed is because people use them like they are supposed to be used. They socialize and that is enough of a reason for billions of people to use those social media platforms. Add the opportunity to be paid for the things you share on top of that..

(Edited)

As others here have said, it's much more than just a comment. To me, it's being involved in the long term building up of something awesome.

My uncle had this beloved old car that had seen better days. As a boy, I'd watch him lovingly restore it over a long period of time. Watching carefully, he'd often let me assist him with the upkeep and once it was finished, it was a thing of beauty.

As important as the work on the car was, were the many moments we bonded in conversation while doing the work. That was half the fun, so I would always try to find free time to go over and help. It was always something to look forward to and brought me closer to my uncle.

That's what I feel we did when we made the move from the other blockchain and that's what we're doing here right now. An increase of engagement, shows a burst of activity for anyone new that we bring in. Kind of like "Man, this place is active! Maybe I'll jump in as well!"

I've worked in retail and if you study shoppers psychology, you learn one thing. Shoppers buy, when they see others buying. I see it all the time when I go out. If I hover in an area checking out a product, inevitably other people become curious at what it is I'm looking at and wanna check it out as well. Stores are now designed to guide traffic in order to showcase more items and is why the milk is nowhere near the cereal.

I did not mean for this to turn into a post, but just wanted to second that your comments are more than just that. Picture each one as a brick in a beautiful home we're building and all of the handiwork inside. They're concrete evidence of a thriving community and will help keep people coming back for more!

That is very true. That's why engagement is extremely important. I just wish that more people was able to understand how much real engagement would help us towards a truly thriving place.

Hopefully, with time and due to all the heavy-lifting some users are doing right now, things will change in the near future.

I really like the idea of initiative 10. I have in the past been quite guilty of short-sighted thinking, but I really do feel like there is progress to be made on here. You've inspired me, time to improve myself and prove that consistency really is key to succeeding

There's nothing wrong with wanting to progress quickly or cash out at different milestones or whatever, but it's usually not a good idea to be short-sighted in general. I mean, you can still think long-term even if you want to cash out some of your stake at $1 instead of $100..

It literally just depends on what you do in the mean time.

It's very tempting to look for short hits. I haven't honestly been able to hold anything long-term enough to satisfy myself yet. Let's just keep adding. I am trying to stop worrying about any numbers at all, just continuing to type my little articles everyday

That's a good idea. To not worry or think about the actual $. Money often causes problems in various way as it is. You don't need to add that stress and anxiety in crypto as well.

I agree with that, I think my main money goal is to not stress... Which now that I type that it is in itself quite an ironic goal as I will be stressing to not stress...

I usually find myself in the upper tier of many of the engagement boards as well. Probably not as high as you, but I think I am up there somewhere. I usually get the alert on Sunday or later in the day through the week that I was mentioned in some post. It is a really good feeling to know that I am doing my part to help the blockchain grow.

It is a really good feeling to know that I am doing my part to help the blockchain grow.

Everything counts. Every single comment that is being made is important for us in the long haul and to be mentioned within the different leagues or reports are definitely an achievement that you should be proud over.

Here's to the doers🍻🍺 One of my favourite aspects about HIVE and LEO is the number of different ways people can participate and add value.. and have to agree with you engagement is key to a thriving ecosystem, certainly the social and blogging elements

#initiative10 is a bit too low. I don't know if I will maintain my current rate forever but I do plan for #initiative50. I have been showing up every week and commenting. Though I may pull back a bit and start writing more posts. I think a healthy mix is better.

That's amazing, I think 50 posts per day is a way too high goal to strive for though, I mean, people are apparently having problems with making 10 per day..
