Finance Fun Fact

I would like to try something new in this community (at least I think it’s new). I’m not a crypto or financial expert, but I do like to contribute to this community so I have to find other finance-related subjects.
Since I have an affinity with security I’m creating blogs about security-related subjects.
But there is another subject where I’m an expert in and that is fun facts. I tend to remember facts about numerous subjects. Most of the time they are totally useless, but they are entertaining.
Since most of the posts are serious here I thought there may be interest in something lighter.
So here goes...

Trevi Fountain Rome

The Trevi Fountain is one of the most famous fountains of the world. The fountain in the Trevi district in Rome attracts millions of tourists (probably a bit less this year because of Covid-19).
The giant fountain is 26.3 metres (86 ft) high and 49.15 metres (161.3 ft) wide. It was designed by Nicola Salvi and constructed in 1762.

The tradition

Like with many other fountains tourists throw a lot of coins in the Trevi fountain. There is a tradition that says if you throw a coin with your right hand over your left shoulder into the fountain you will return to this beautiful city one day. Tossing two coins means you'll return and fall in love and when tossing three coins you'll return, find love, and marry.
Whether everyone believes it or not, an estimated 3,000 euros are thrown into the fountain each day. This is about €1.4 million Euro or $1.5 million US Dollar each year! An amazing amount.

Charity

The coins are collected every day and donated to Caritas, a Catholic charity foundation in Rome. Caritas uses the money to sponsor charity projects around the world on topics such as health, disasters, poverty reduction and migration.
In 2017 Virginia Raggi (the mayor of Rome) proposed to use the collected money to support Rome's infrastructure and cultural heritage.
But this idea caused a lot of outrage on social media so Raggi decided to keep donating the money to charity.

I'm curious what you think of this fun fact. Is there an interest in these type of posts?

ahh i knew about how much money it generates but not that the amount ends up for charity! (at least i hope that would be the case because of the corruption)

Also regarding the below

Mostly nobody is in here :P

But there is another subject where I’m an expert in and that is fun facts

Easy!

😀

  1. Most smartphones contain more bacteria than the average toilet seat (think of about that when you put you phone against your ear).

  2. It's not the crocodile, lion or hippo that kills the most people in Africa, but the mosquito.

  3. And a financial one; the people from the island Yap used giant stones as a currency. The stones could not easily be moved but they kept a register where they notes who owned which stone.
    It's comparable with blockchain technology.

Even better. There are lots of crypto people here but over time it will be a lot more interesting to see more diverse writers coming into the system. Different and interesting content to keep people here and reading.

Fun posts like this are always nice to see and share your knowledge with the world.
