Why I Never Check the Trending Page
i may rock your world by saying this, but i never check on the trending page and i have a reason for doing so! Before you start throwing rocks at me let me explain it!
To begin with, if you know me, then you already know how many posts i read and how many comments i make. So how it's possible not to check on the trending page, you may be wondering.
So for all of you that don't know my upvoting/commenting "strategy" let me inform you of what exactly i do. My priority is the people that i follow and have on my Feed.
I try to read their posts, upvote and comment on them. It's not mandatory that i will do so though. If i strongly disagree with something or i don't like it at all, then i will skip it. Or maybe if i don't have that much free time, then there is a chance i miss something.
Then after i finish with the posts on my feed i got 3 options. To check on trending, hot and recent pages. On the trending page, you will find the post with the most rewards, on the hot some new posts that seem to be doing well/decent, and on the recent page the newest pots!
Given the fact that my vote at 100% worths 0,1 Leo i don't see any point to go and vote posts on the trending page, with rewards over 40 Leo. Thus, i stay on Hot and Recent page and i try to balance my time on both.
I think an author with under 10 Leo rewards will appreciate way more my small upvote as well as my comment. Especially, when i find some underrated authors and make the first comment, i bet they feel as good as i!
It's not that i never see posts on the trending page though. I just don't prefer to scroll there. You see i already follow some people that are constantly on the trending page as well as the leo accounts.
So their posts pop up on my feed and i check some of them. Also, there is a chance that some of the people i already follow or randomly find an upvote to get an upvote from a whale and reach to the trending page!
In other words, while i don't spend my time at all on the trending page, some of the posts i upvote and comment on may end up there. I really hate though some people that constantly comment on posts that only reach the trending page, in an attempt to gather some upvotes!

I agree, spreading the love and the votes will do a lot for the success of this Blockchain. Seeing the same names again and again on trending make it harder and harder to new voice to break through.

I do too but I would like to see different names breaking through especially when trending is the front page of Hive. All that said, my voting pattern is very similar to yours.

Agree that upvotes there might have more impact that on trending page.

I never look at Trending either. That said, I don't look at Hot as well.
My time is usually spent on my Feed and once I'm done with that I go to Recent. I don't want anybody other than myself to decide what content I read and what articles I see. So while I feel like the right authors are making it to Trending most of the time, I prefer to not let anybody else make a pre-selection for me.

Seems a viable strategy. Most users do appreciate the small rewards especially when they are new and have yet to establish a brand of their own in the community. The thing about looking trending is either it motivates one to do better or makes one feel bad out of envy for attention/rewards.
Some of the interesting reads I get are from the people I follow already and some scouted from misc tags. Trending page is more like a gauge on what the general community values so I get to know what content thrives and doesn't on Leo.

By the time I eventually click on the trending page I notice that I have already voted for a fair share of the posts anyway. Most of my time is spent on my feed and recent.

I dont go to the trending page either. I do not like the fact that I have to land there when I hit "explore". Most of my time is spent on the recent tab since there is where the new, unvoted stuff is.

and as far as i see it the wealth i spread quite decently. I have seen many of the posts i vote in recent or my feed to get to hot or trending

I agree with you on this, I would prefer to see a different landing page that is either curated or popular posts. I also think the autovotes are swaying the game too much.

I don't check trending page either as many times it's annoying to see what kind of content is there, no offense. Sometimes you see posts that should not be trending.
I check Recent and I can find any post that has been created, then I can pick whatever I want from there.

Chinese and/or Korean. You barely find an English post, but that's the shocking part. What is that $100 post contains a photo or two and barely one or two paragraphs.

i checked it and it was so sad but true. I tried to be a little bit of active there these couple of days (not even close to how active i am in hive/leo) and the results were disastrous.
There are just a few English speaking communities and basically even the most powerful of them don't have actually much vp. They all wait for the curation team that justin delegated SP to get some votes. Those people are trying but they are just a few for the whole platform in a way :p
the only ones profiting are those koreans and chinese with huge stakes that vote themselves with those 100$ votes that you mentioned and nobody does anything about it

Whales left after we forked and a only a couple stayed, mostly Korean I believe. It's not a healthy environment if you ask me. Compare that with what we have here.
However, if they like that system, they are free to use it. I don't.
Compare the evolution we have with what they have, after 4 years. But then again, they are only as old as we are as you can't really count the 3 years of Steemit as most of the stakeholders, dapps, platforms, knowledge and users left. What came after is Sunny boy and his system.
