Still on Hive, it would seem...

Everyone loves a good origin story. In the infinite span of random posts on this chain, at least something like this will be original. That is, until someone copies it and try to pretend it's their own story. Oh, I've seen it all too many times.

My First Crypto

Of course, Hive (then Steem) was not my first interaction with crypto. I've been tip toeing into crypto since 2012. I'm most likely one of Coinbase's earliest customers. Even then, I didn't find it on my own. My roommate, who is my best friend still, introduced me to Bitcoin back in 2012. He wasn't an enthusiast. It was more like college dude found something interesting and shared it with his roomies.

Soon, we were doing faucets and stuff for those mBTCs. In hindsight, that'd have been a lot of money had we kept up. I exited BTC near the end of the 2013 cycle. I didn't sell at the top, but I managed to muster enough funds to get through my unpaid internship. This was on top of working part-time on the side.

Unfortunately, I did not choose to get involve with crypto again, thinking I got lucky that cycle. Fast forward to 2017, another friend, from the same roommate circle, told me he was in BTC again. I didn't have enough funds to make meaningful purchases at the time. So, I settled for some accumulation. In hindsight, it actually wasn't a bad idea given Bitcoin's current price. No, I didn't sell at the top of 2017, I didn't have enough crypto to matter.

Intro to Hive

I learned about Hive from @someguy123. On occasion, he used to share about his ventures on the chain in the LTC Discord. I was looking for something social media related at the time and he gave me a quick run down of the ecosystem. Of course, I opted to sign up via STINC's faucet.

When I looked back, giving out some of my info was not the best move. Not that it matters, most of us had given out our information for less. And in that screen shot, you could see some of my first actions on the chain. Those were back in March 2018.

2220+ Pages Later

Since then, I have accumulated over 2220 pages of actions on the chain. My history here is not that glamorous. Some hate my guts to the extreme, for better or worse. I first found myself caught in the Bernie-Haejin drama. This prompted me to align myself with people like @anthonyadavisii.

I found myself doing some anti-abuse activity with some volunteers. Participated in @utopian-io when it was still a thing. Little by little, I find myself deviate from the boring, and often thankless, gig of anti-abuse. This doesn't mean I won't lend downvotes when the time calls for it.

Why Still Here?

When I started, I wanted to be an amateur content creator like many people. As time went on, I wanted to do that less and less. The politics are frustrating. The people can sometimes be frustrating as well.

I'm at a point where I'm only curious to see where this chain goes. Will it continue to limp along as other projects prosper? Or, will it die with a whimper?

Now, I prefer playing some games, if you could call them that, and looking into passive ventures on Hive. My goal is to phase out of the social scene on the chain altogether at some point. Hive gave me something to do when I needed to reinvent my online persona. It wasn't about the money. It was for the therapeutics, and it's running out of its usefulness.

Does that mean I will exit? Most likely not. I will still be in the background, Discord and whatnot. My blog is exactly what it entails: a place where I scribble down my thoughts. I don't pretend I'm an upstart content creator or artist. If I do get compensated, great.

Don't be a maximalist and enjoy the uptrend in crypto.

I knew about the backstory prior to the 2220+ pages and down section. I stay for the similar reason + assign myself to care for a local apathetic community.

Curious, what is with the #whyamihere tag? I think I missing something here .-. I seen it on some posts but only occurred to me now to ask.

Oh, I saw Marky and a bunch of others doing it, so I jumped in.

No idea where it came from though.

I too found Bitcoin early on but, unlike you, didnt get involved. I had a case of the "later, I'll get to it". Never did, well not until 5 years later.

Oh well, live and learn.

Better late than never.

I was a poor college kid then. Didn't have much capital, but it is what it is.

@dougpolkcrypto, lol... I remember that name, looks like he gave up, about 1 year on YouTube. Bad timing I suppose..

Yeah. I actually liked his crypto content. They weren't your typical "moon boi" bs.

I think I was quite lucky to avoid the drama you mentioned about. I was also introduced to BTC from my roommate back in 2012 or 2013 but I didn't bother jumping in. I think my roommate was suppose to try mining it then but I have no idea where it went and all I lost was around $20-$25.

I am also curious where this chain will go in the future. The new applications being developed seem game changing but until it is released, I can only guess. I think the passive income strategy is good. Even if you do phase out into the background, you will still be growing your bags in the case HIVE does moon.

When it comes to Hive's ecosystem, I'm just playing a little game of self-sufficiency and self-sustainability.

I came to blogging on Steem when another blogger talked me into it. Back then it was actually fun, full of activity and different people. The Bernie and Haejin war was fun to watch, but I stayed out of the fray of that one. Now if you ask me both sites are seriously lacking, they've become rather mundane but I guess that could be because everyone left. Just about everyone I guess one could say. When they went to communities it seem to have destroyed the platforms. Steemit is totally unrecognizable now but I have less steem than hive and that account is worth more. There's hardly a sole left over there I once knew though. I guess I mainly keep plugging at it because it offers a chance to take a break from blogging on news platforms.

When the market is climbing in the bull run, it's hard to take coins like HIVE or STEEM seriously.

Most sane people realize they can make more money elsewhere.

That's incredible! That's exactly the same way I got here too. What a coincidence. Except that you got into Crypto in 2012, and I got into it in 1992 thus making my claim to this story far more plausible than yours lol ;-)

I'm glad you're here :-)

Nice story. I joined it back in February 2018. I don't regret a second spent on this platform.

It's curious though how many early adopters haven't become millionaires or at least haven't stacked that many sats.

I guess it was hard to believe this tech back then.

Probably a lot more than we think.

You are right my friend, the people here are stressful, with so many absurd and senseless policies, they seem like radical politicians.

It goes both ways.

You have people who insist that you have to follow a certain stringent set of rules. Then, you have people who think because it's a "decentralized" space, it means they can do whatever they want without repercussion.

Sure, one would have to stay in the middle of that line, since we don't own other people's content, but we don't want this to be filled with garbage either.

I think many of us dream of using hive as a passive income generator, and becoming a more casual user instead of grinding it out and mid-maxing tags and whatnot :P

Idk man...

I think a lot of people legitimately thinks this is their lifeline and they are full time content creators.

Good for them, I don't think I'll be able to be as active as I am now in 5 or more years

I'd imagine I'm hiding in the shadows when I hit 5 years.

i probably would tone down on the blogging once I get my finances sorted this year (giving myself a deadline). i still want to pursue content creation but on a broader scale and improve my quality.

There is nothing I fancy on the internet these days so I am stuck here. i do enjoy my interactions with a few people here, so the chances of leaving altogether are quite slim.

Quality over quantity is definitely a good goal.

I love writing but it's very time consuming and most people don't really care what i have to say anyway.
I do love the hive-ecosystem and want to see where it goes from here. It could become the biggest thing in crypto or die with a whimper. Nobody knows but what i do know is that if it is successful then you will want to use this time to set up a decent account.

Rewards will probably move off layer 1 at some stage and move to the layer 2 apps. When that happens we will see a whole new system that rewards stakers and runs apps where you can earn your social rewards.

I guess we will just have to stick around to find out.

I think many of us dream of using hive as a passive income.

There are better alternatives.

Hive is better for experimentations, though.
