I think I'm going to quit my job soon.

After losing like $200k on paper and still having over $100k magic-internet-money left... still making thousands a month on my blog posts, curation, and cub farming... I really have to ask myself: what the fuck am I doing still working at Amazon for $16/h?

Now, I've only worked like a couple days out of the last 3 weeks. Amazon has been offering a ton of voluntary time off, and I've been taking it all, using all my spare time to work on my own Magitek project. I've been leveraging my stimulus payouts into not working so I can develop Magitek more.

I also have plans to move out of state in September, so I might as well get situated with this new reality asap.

I still have 50+ hours left to take off before I get fired (4 hours per shift). I can no call no show until then. At this rate I could take over a month off and not get fired.

There's also a chance I can drop my Saturday and Sunday shifts which are the days that time off is rarely offered. This would allow me to continue VTO (voluntary time off) until September. Hell, I might even be able to pretend like I still work there even after I move out of state considering how much time off is being offered recently.

There's also a rumor about severance package buyouts that I need to look into. Every once and a while when Amazon needs people to quit they will offer money to do so, but you can't work for the company again for x years. Sounds like a damn good deal if I can get it. I may be able to leverage all this time off I have into a payout.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, when I can write a blog post and get paid more than an entire shift at work... why the fuck am I still working for a company that's clearly rolling out facial recognition and authoritarian scanning and tracking?

The other day I clocked into work, you know what I saw? The person at the front gate "checking temperatures" was not looking at the infrared monitor at all. A red box popped up right on the person's face (facial recognition) and they'd get the green light after the face was confirmed. Super cool how they can do facial recognition now even if you're wearing a mask. Love that.

I seriously don't think they've sent a single person home because their "temperature was too high". Shit is crazy. Can't wait till they roll this tech out to the public. I love walking by a camera and having a green circle painted around me that turns red if I get within 6 feet of someone.

In any case, times are changing. I may make the switch to working for Hive full time sooner than anticipated. Not really looking forward to cashing out money every month but what are ya gonna do? Currency is currency. I'm a scrapper anyway I hardly spend any money. Hopefully Magitek brings way more value to the network than I could ever leech from it. Cheers.

Sort:

We need to be able to take loans out against HIVE like you can with ETH and others on various defi platforms. Then instead of cashing out, you just take a loan and you don’t have to sell your crypto and it’s not a taxable event either.

loans are the fingers of the devel

I've actually already programmed that part of Magitek... and it 'works'... in theory.
Except instead of Hive you do it with Fire... that can only created by sending Hive to @null.
Actually users will be able to create mana/fire/lightning/ice.
Seeing as Ice is the stable coin: that's the one you want to create if going long so you only owe back USD.

yeah. that would be awesome. I think then i would power up all liquid hive i have :)

wow, that will be so cool, to be able to take loans using HP as collateral, not that i need it, but it would be nice.

A lot of people are using Nexo to just that, just doesn't support Hive.

This sounds good.

Just do it, if you think your ready, and focus on your passion.
I did.

We only need to be concerned if the green circle painted around your face turns red, just because you posted something negative about e.g. vaccination or your company on Twitter the other day. Somehow I have the feeling this might come.

Just go for it! Your postings create much more value than boxing things or whatever Amazons asks you to do.

Going strictly by the book, paying tax on Hive income would be an utter nightmare in most countries because each time any token on Hive is credited to our account is a taxable event where income is earned. We should record the dollar value of that token at the time of reception and upon exchanging it for any other token or directly into fiat we we should calculate the gain or loss. There is such a large number of transactions and the token prices are so hard to determine that it becomes completely impossible in practice. For example, your curation rewards are paid out in Vests (Hive Power). How do you determine the dollar value of those Vests? Exactly how many HIVE each Vest is worth is a dynamic variable depending on many factors and it is not stored on chain.

Many years ago, someone developed a script for calculating those values for Steem users but that tool failed to produce correct values.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It's my understanding that vests aren't taxable because they aren't tradable.
There is no market or market value for vests.

I'm in a bit of a unique situation, because I have A LOT of Hive and other cryptos that isn't income at all and will be applicable for long-term capital gains. The tax on long-term capital gains is 0% up to $40k a year... so I really don't have to pay taxes at all.

Wow quite an interesting project, I am anxious to know how it will work and what benefits it could bring us in the gaming and NFT environment.

Don't be afraid, Just DO IT. If it didn't work out as expected, you can go back to a $16 job anytime you chose. Ditch the security blanket and walk.

You are not the only one. I am also asking:-

what the fuck are you doing still working at Amazon for $16/h?
PS A serious suggestion is to change your HODL attitude slightly and approach your investment strategies as part income, part capital gain. It will provide you an income AND also cover any future disasters meaning you can't lose wht you've already had. Of course, if the future turns out as expected with the rise and rise of crypto, you'll be an even bigger winner.

Best wishes to you. I read you most days and this old fella KNOWS you have the skillset and attitude to suceed off the employees treadwheel.

You are one Hiver that is making this post (that I read most weeks) where don't feel like it is "too soon". Most people see that they are making enough on hive (at the moment) and quit their job, only to sell off their bags and realize they "retired" too soon.

You are ready. You make a living wage with your blogs, so you don't need to sell "your bags". Congrats to making it to the next crypto stage... (the take this job and shove it stage)

There's also a rumor about severance package buyouts that I need to look into. Every once and a while when Amazon needs people to quit they will offer money to do so, but you can't work for the company again for x years. Sounds like a damn good deal if I can get it.

It sounds like a way to get people off the workforce as automation takes over. By doing a severance package, they can get away from all the media fuss about they removing jobs.

This is the new American Dream: Quitting your job and working at home.

Gone are dreams of pensions and gold watches.
Gone are dreams of corporate board rooms.
Gone are dreams of promotions and pay raises.

Say Hello to the greatest goodbye, escape the rat race to work at home.
That’s my dream too, and this year, it may come true.

Say hello to financial self-sufficiency, and working for one self.

Your post here inspired a pretty ridiculous rant,
I'm curious to get your feedback if that's of interest.
Is a perpetually tumultuous market too much to ask for?

Again, pure poetry...

Brother, if you work at amazon, what about Amazon mechanical turk?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Why trade a $16/hr job to pennies an hour? 🤣

Well, I thought they paid the same, didn't they?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

You'd be lucky to earn $16/hr on mechanical Turk, though it is probably possible the effort isn't worth it 🤷‍♂️

Posted via D.Buzz

16$ per hour is before tax?
What are you actually doing in amazon?

Bottom-level part-time grunt-work.

Sounds like you are making a good call

You're making a fuck ton of money from crypto already, so you might as well quit.
I shared this interesting story about a couple in America that retired in their 30s. I think it might interest you since you're probably heading down the same line with them anyway

Quitting your job to have more time on hive and your project isnt a bad idea

how is this cine related?

someone told me to tag cine on my last post but I'm just now realizing that's because it was about a TV show

Right, I read your post and all the comments and I think it would be a wise decision to make.
Unless it's going to give you heaps of stress to not have a 'fiat' income coming, then I'd definitely do it.

I have enough money to live on for years at this point even without the blog rewards.

Taken from a comment
This right here. If this is your situation, then I'd say, what are you waiting for!?
I can understand that waiting to be 'paid' off by Amazon could be a good thing but if it is causing you misery and headache, I'd say why not just stop now?
To let go of something we have become used to doing on the regular can be a scary thing but judging from your post and comments, I'd say you're good to go.
Be free of the restraints of Amazon!

Just my two cents!

In 2018, I also had some nice numbers on paper, then Steem tanked from 6$ to 10 cents and all that was left for the next 2 years were pennies on the dollar

I guess it all depends on the personal risk tolerance, but what I've learned is that numbers on paper are just that: numbers on paper.

Now, I'm obviously not saying that one should realize all their gains, especially now in a dumped market, but if this crypto/web3 thingy is as big as we all think it will be then it's a marathon for 10+ years.

No advice, just my opinion: if you think you can make more money doing something in crypto instead of doing your current day-job, then take the correct measures.

Do it and be free. Easy decision!

if you have enough cash for daily shit, no pressure.

Life running on fiat is stressing me out. I can't be the only one struggling to pay bills every month and suffering severely physically and emotionally because of the toll of life and work.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Well it’s 16 extra bucks an hour to buy the dips that’s all the comfort I can really give you!

Is it though?

I think it might be a waste of time: I can generate exponential value in the cryptosphere.

That is a SOLID plan, in my opinion, if you're getting those results out on the fringe! It's much nicer out here anyway. Do you post exclusively within the Hive Ecosystem, or are you including a website and other outlets like Publish0x and memo.cash? Just curious. :)

I've been thinking about asking you why the heck you still work... I'm dreaming of living off from internet money too so I've been thinking about tossing some into cubdefi but I got few questions about it if you dont mind answering.

Cubdefi uses BNB-BSC (binance smart chain), is BNB-BSC only coin I need for fuel for transactions? Are all the other coins just BSC wrapped in the farms? And do I just receive CUB from farms?

is BNB-BSC only coin I need for fuel for transactions?

yeah

BSC is just a clone of Ethereum where BNB = ETH
Tokens on BSC are just ERC-20 tokens (BEP-20)
Exact same rules of ETH apply to BSC... it's the same codebase.

They're being awfully generous with all the VTO's they're offering. I think you can still combine your regular job with this considering the flexibility. However, if it gets too much, then do the needful.

The ball is always in your court and whatever you decide, best of luck

You either do it by yourself or the bots will kick you out. It's clear that those scanners aren't about temperatures and any of these covid measures. It's the general public getting used with RFID chips scanned and facial recognition for granted access or denied. I'm amazed how many are still blind fully falling for this shit.

Wuuut why tye fuck you earn 16 if you can dev?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

probably have to write an entire blog post to explain that one

short answer: let's say crippling social anxiety combined with a refusal to accept the corporate ladder.

Be your own ladder.

Do it.

You're obviously not a moron, so the absolute worst thing that can happen is you get another shitty job if you don't make the money you want.

Sounds like a good deal to me.

You currently have a good rep within the Hive + Leo community, so as long as you're showing the value you're adding, I don't really see an issue with making withdrawals.

Not like you'll be draining your stake to zero and not working on things.

All the best man, I'm excited for you!

@edicted Hi! You have a big decision to make, I just hope it's for the best! I take the opportunity to request advice for my venture, buy on Amazon or Alibaba and resell in Venezuela, my concern is the cost of shipping. Creating content in Hive is fun when at the same time we receive rewards for our work, but not every day we have the same luck, that's why I want to invest my time in creating a value proposition for my new venture! Coofee 3$ * kg I have no idea if I can get that price in the market.

What would i do?

I like my job at the moment, so i would work there, but how long?

But if i wouldn't like my job i would answer some questions to my self.

Hiw much i am earning with blogging and other things.
Do i earn more than i spent money in a month? Is it at least 20% more? Will i earn it in the futre too or can something happen so my earning will drop?

Do i have more than one income? Only blogging is a risk. What happens if i am ill?

So if i earn more than i spent and if i have more than one income and if i don't like my job i would quit immediatly.

If you can do it then do it.. Hive's only going to get better and better and it's development is likely to outpace bitcoin, eth and all those other 'good' coins.

I'm actually in the process of pulling out some money from hive as well to help pay for a new aquarium I want.

How is gridcoin doing I haven't looked into it in years.

Price wise it's pretty much sitting in the micro mcap world. $5mil mcap etc, holding strong I'd say considering it having few exchanges.

Development wise it's come a long massively. Got some very dedicated core devs who have pretty much rewritten most of the code and de-spagettied it. New beacon system for CPIDs, new onboarding tools and setup guides built into the UI. Massive sync optimizations and performance improvements. Obscene amounts of bug fixes.

Community is still pretty decent, much like hive, very dedicated to the coin.

Not sure what is next in terms of development at the moment as we just got done with a HF fixing some issues and completing a lot of the rebuild work. Probably manual reward claims or something along those lines.

I've always been a huge fan of POW 2.0

Hoping that Gridcoin and Golem moon pretty hard.

First this. What is (a) Magitek?? :D

I also have plans to move out of state in September, so I might as well get situated with this new reality asap.

Where are you moving to?

Sounds kinda a like a dream coming true :p

Ohh!! I DID READ ABOUT THIS, I just forgot.

Its a bit complicated though :D

Amazing!

Hopefully the frontend will be a lot simpler than the explanation I've given.

Perfect. Looking forward to it! :D

I think your effort will be well worth it here! But excuse my ignorance... what is Magitek exactly?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Ah, I read the piece now and at least understand the tokenomics side of it! It's really got some nice properties, including the clear presence of sinks, which I'm always a fan of :).

I am extremely curious what is happening at the other end. Will it be more of a game, a gamified tribe, or perhaps more investment platform oriented in its core?

Good luck out there

Has anyone ever looked in to what that beam of energy, directed right at your skull that houses the frontal part of your brain, does to your brains? How many times does the beam need to be bounced off your skull before it begins to have micro fractures, and then cracks, and then holes?

I have no idea of what type of beam technology they are using. I have seen no news reports on what type of beam technology they are using. Does anyone? The temperature device does not touch you, it sends a beam that bounces the info back.

Amazon has been offering a ton of voluntary time off

Why's that? I thought business was booming for Amazon even more than usual since COVID.

I may make the switch to working for Hive full time

Sounds like a pretty brave move to me. 😂

@edicted, you were given LUV from @lordneroo! Info: https://peakd.com/@luvshares or check wallet: https://hive-engine.com

If you can do it without powering down (something like 50/50 posts plus delegation earnings plus an income stream from H-E/farming) it’s probably a gamble worth taking. Especially if your move is to a place with a lower cost of living.

That said, posting earnings can be quite fickle.

Especially if your move is to a place with a lower cost of living.

Lower than California Bay Area? heh.
That's everywhere.

As it stands now I'm earning quite a bit more on Hive than from Amazon, and I'm not even trying that hard.

Shoot, when my Hive/crypto stands at even 20K, I'll kiss my job goodbye. Take the leap!

Oh I believe that it will be a great act of courage to do what you've just said. Dying a little bit inside working for a giant who will not care if all employees die tomorrow sounds like a bad thing to do for your spiritual health. I believe that sometimes picking your own sanity and well being goes beyond the money you could make on short term. I hope you succeed! 💪

Get on that buyout if it’s a thing and fund your project with it.

Sounds good, I'd need something like $500 a day to be able to give up work :( bloody Australian cost of living
