Pay me the price of HBD [ENG-ESP] Págame el precio del HBD

Many people wonder why the exchanges to bolivars from HIVE and HBD do not have the "real" rate that pages like coinmarketcap or @coingecko show us.

Today I will make an explanation in the case of Venezuela, because many times you might think that the exchange houses are earning exorbitant figures and are usurious, but the truth is that the market always puts the order.

Let's see an example for the HBD before yesterday's rise. Suppose we see the HBD at $1 USD in the Peakd wallet that shows coingeko; but the exchange rate is at 1,400,000 Bs being that the dollar is at 1,800,000, we could think that those 400,000 of difference are the exchange house's profit, but more than 20% seems exaggerated to us.

It would certainly be exaggerated and it is not what the exchange houses earn. That difference goes a long way, but more importantly, we don't see the real price of the HBD, especially the one used by the exchange houses to calculate rates.

This is where it gets interesting and is part of the education that every user who exchanges their rewards to local currency should have. What happens is that I think a post like this had never been done before, since exchange houses are only dedicated to that, to exchange; except for almost a year ago, we @rutablockchain since we were not born as an exchange house, but it is a service that started with HIVE when we already had more than two years educating people.

How to calculate the price of HBD

I will talk about how the exchange houses that operate in Venezuela calculate it, for a HBD/Bs service.

The price we see in coingeko is not the one used by the exchange houses. This price is taken by coingeko, making an average of the 3 exchanges that listed the HBD. Which are: Upbit, Upbit Indonecia and Bittrex. There is also Ionomy, but it is so small that they don't list it.

That is not the price that is used, as those exchanges are not used in the process. That's why we will always have different rates than what we see on @coingeko.

Why those exchanges are not used or better, why the exchange is not done directly with the dollar price.

The first thing we have to know is that the dollar does not play any role in the exchange of the HBD to the Bolivar. The reason is that, who influences is the Bitcoin.

Why the Bitcoin? The answer is that the HBD is only sold by users, not bought. As there is only one direction in the exchange, you have to look for another asset that supports to get the bolivars. In this case bitcoin is the one that really has volume in Venezuela for both buying and selling. Therefore HBD will have to be exchanged to bitcoin to then sell it and get bolivars.

Venezuela is one of the countries with the largest bitcoin exchange. The exchange is fast, however bitcoin is expensive and I am not talking about its price, but to move it. The commissions to move bitcoin are high and that is the reason for the existence of our exchange houses in Venezuela; they assume that commission in a large transaction, to make many small transactions.

This is possible because in HIVE we have many Venezuelans. In other countries they do not have this service and they have to make the change spending a lot in commissions.

But I still do not answer why the HBD rate does not match what coingeko says. You will say that you simply take the rate of one of those 3 exchanges you use and that's it. However that is not the case since none of those exchanges are used.

Bittrex blocked Venezuela for use. Upbit is Korean and has no English translation, it is impossible to know what each button is for. Upbit Indonecia is in English but you have to enter with VPN and it seems to me (I am not sure) that KYC is mandatory; not all countries are accepted.

Because of all these complications, what is done is to move HBD to HIVE, and HIVE to BTC. This is mostly done by Binance or Huobi.

This is why the HBD rate cannot be known directly; because you always have to change it to HIVE. For this you take the internal market rate and then the HIVE rate with the BTC.

It may seem complicated and certainly at first it is; especially for many users who are just starting out in HIVE and have no idea about cryptocurrencies. But this is not a tutorial to set up an exchange house 😛 my goal is for you to understand a bit of the process, which exchange houses in Venezuela go through.

Lowering Rates

There is the possibility of lowering the rates if one of two situations occurs. One is that Binance includes HBD in its platform; that way we will be able to have a direct price of the HBD without having to exchange it to HIVE. The other is that the market takes a balance between buying and selling. At the moment I see more feasible the first one since I see that Venezuelans do not invest much buying HIVE and HBD with bolivars. The few that invest do so from their own rewards. Of course there are exceptions, but they are very few.

With a market that has the same amount of purchases and sales, the profits for the users increase. Bitcoin would no longer be used, not even other exchanges, and commissions would be greatly reduced.

Differences between Venezuelan Exchange Houses.

Actually I will only talk about one that is the one that concerns this post; but first I must say emphatically that they always want to have the best rate.

I remember the times of Steem when at the beginning there was only one exchange house. Because it had a monopoly, it charged 1 SBD for every 10 you exchanged. But if you exchanged less it still charged you that 1. This even when the SBD was going up and up; being at a price of $5 USD for each SBD.

The SBD kept going up and as a user it hurt a lot those commissions, but since we were earning well and Venezuela was cheap at that time; we quickly forgot about it.

But suddenly new exchange houses started to appear and the competition made them change that system. Competition is always good for the customer and that is why we are blessed and fortunate to have several exchange houses in Venezuela. We have a power of choice envied by hivers in other countries.

**I got distracted and did not tell you the difference. It is automated attention vs. manual attention **.

And what comes out of this with respect to the topic of the post, is that there are times when rates can be very different, silly down and up.

The exchange houses that have automated their system, do not calculate the rate manually. They do it through the exchange APIs. For the HIVE everything is perfect because they connect to the Binance API and that's it. But what about the HBD that they have to connect it to other exchanges.

Connecting the HBD to exchanges you don't use is to lose control of the rate.

The advantage of automating the system is that besides looking more professional, you save the work of pulling the rate all the time. But the downside is that in the case of HBD you don't control the rate.

At @rutacambios we pull the rate manually every time a customer asks for it. This gives a more realistic rate. We always seek to have the best rate and when it is a big change, we can even customize it so that the client has a preferential rate.

The example was given today, when @rutacambios offered a much higher rate than the others. The exchange rate was 1.900.000 Bs vs. 1.600.000 Bs of the others. A significant difference that makes your HIVE rewards yield more.

If you have any doubts, I'll be waiting for you in the comments...
