Inflation Really Hitting Home

These figures are nowhere near the real pricing that we are currently experiencing and are I would estimate out by a good 50% on top of these figures.

We went out to a restaurant as a family during this week for the first time since February last year. With all the lock downs kicking in from March last year we never really had a chance plus with my family being sick with Covid we were in no rush to just dine out.

I was a little stunned at the prices however as I must have missed something somewhere along the way. I understand restaurants have suffered with lost income, but then again a majority of us have as well. How they can justify a 25% increase across the menu is beyond me. One thing is for certain we won't be going back as I just can't spend which in comparison is over a weeks worth of groceries.

I still haven't drawn a salary from my business except for paying the odd fuel bill here and there. I believe if it covers your expenses it is just best to let the business grow and at least give it a chance. Many businesses fail as the owners are too quick to pounce on the profits leaving nothing left for marketing or any potential growth plans. I am no Amazon who took 8 years to register their first profit as my pockets are not that deep so sometime this year my business has to start paying for itself.

Not surprisingly wild pig is the favorite food of the lion as it is some of the best tasting meat I have ever eaten.
Instead of eating out we have decided to just eat better and change the menu up at home. A friend of ours helps a farmer out by culling nuisance animals and luckily warthogs or bush pigs (Pumba from the Lion King) are on that list. This is a bit like a wild boar, but a little smaller normally at about 100-120kg. Talk about a great meat to eat plus it is dirt cheap considering the entire pig will cost less than $50 and arrives on Sunday evening. I expect there to be about 70-80 kg's of meat which is less than $1 per kg so no complaints from me there.

I was at the butchers this morning and I do love my food and don't really look at pricing as everyone is normally the same wherever you shop and you just live with it. The one cut of meat I bought was a belly pork and it wasn't huge yet cost 25% of what I paid for the entire pig that was hunted. A quick phone call today to my friend who is out hunting to see if the farmer sells any other types of meat and have now ordered a lamb. This will all be butchered and ready to go for half the price of the shops.

I think what is becoming more and more noticeable is how the prices of everything have just escalated up in the last few months. Things like coffee and bread are up between 30% and 50% which makes no sense really. Any excuse to make more money by sucking everyone dry. These companies were open during the lock down period so there is no justification for such price hikes.

The most I feel sorry for are those below the bread line as those on government hand outs of roughly $30 per month must really be struggling to make ends meet. Jobs are non existent as what is becoming more and more noticeable is how many businesses are no longer around.

Last week I had to drop people off at the airport and a normal trip during the rush hour would take a good hour and I was there and back in less than the time it would take for 1 way. This is a tell tale sign that the economy is just nowhere near recovered and a recession has to be on the horizon very soon. I just don't see any other outcome with unemployment being so high and now over 50%. This is what is driving the inflation up right now and there is no miracle cure for this except time.

It is a good investment that you have made there with the purchase of the meat from your friend! Here in my town they also usually sell meats, but it is not cheaper, they equal the price of a common butcher shop. So it doesn't make much difference to whether you buy it from the fridge or not. I have also seen cases where they sell horse meat and pass it off as beef, it happens that this also brings trust problems. Complicated. Here on my little side of the world, people are trying to survive too, the pandemic hit many businesses and families. Hopefully better times are looming.! Greetings, best wishes for your business.

Wow, that is some pretty big jumps for the essential stuff that you need. We have seen some small increases across the board, but nothing significant for my wife and I. I can see how it might be more of an impact on the lower income families. The biggest increase we have seen lately is the price of gas, but that is always all over the place anyway.
