My online revenue streams as an organist
This is by no means a gloating post, but perhaps a pity post! @organduo and I were discussing recently where are our other "baskets" are in regards to monetising our music making. So here it goes (in now particular order):
Sheet Music Plus Affiliate
- You can register as an affiliate or as a composer
- The commission rate is about 8% on affiliate sales
- Compositions on original music or PD music is 45%
- Compositions (arrangements?) on copyrighted songs is 10%
So I add affiliate links to music I record and is available on SMP. Averaging about $20 USD a month.
DistroKid
- Basically a distributor for all streaming platforms (Spotify, iTunes etc.)
- Can earn $10 per referral as well
It's really hard to get streams as a classical musician, let alone an organist. But I haven't been doing too badly compared to other competitors in my niche. Averaging about $20-$30 USD a month.
YouTube
- I wrote about this last week. I've been monetised for about 8 months now making about $100 AUD p/month.
Patreon / Buy Me a Coffee / YouTube Memberships / PayPal
- These are regular support platforms which have boomed since the pandemic hit, but I have been using them well before it.
- Supporters receive perks in exchange for different "tiers" or simply to support me on an ongoing basis. I also write blog posts here and share supporter-only content.
Averaging about $60-$80 USD p/month.
Blockchain social media
- Hive 👍, Steem 😬, Creary 😮, Blurt 🤬
- I think I'm well supported here as a musician considering that the audience is way, way smaller for the organ playing niche. However, I used to be more active pre-Hive on Steem...running a witness and being involved in small dev projects. Unfortunately I lost the fire during the hardfork. Perhaps I'll be inspired sometime again.
My "earnings" here are public, so just see my @contrabourdon wallet/transfer pages. Of course, most of these are earnings in staked power and cannot be cashed out unless I delegate for APR or power down.
Conclusion
I'm a poor musician, but I'm still happy doing what I love. My dream is to be financially secure so I can dedicate my being to sharing and creating music. Wouldn't it be fantastic if I could focus on this without the burden of worrying how to meet my recurring expenses and raising a family? Crypto and blockchain is promising and I hope Cub Finance is another stepping stone to this.

I never thought that it was really who played the music you posted here. I thought of another person but I'm glad I encountered your post now. You are amazing, sir.
